Buying A Spring Rifle! :)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys Im Kelvin & am new to this website, i wud love sum help frm u good people

on choosing my 2nd "Springer" (i ope i ave posted this in the correct place 4 starts!)

within the next week or 2 im lookin at spending a maximum of around £500 on a rifle

and scope, i luv the look of the AirArms TX200HC if im honest and recently owned a

weihrauch HW97 which wa stolen unfortunatly, i enjoyed the 97 but this time wanted

look around abit more as i was kinda pushed into buying that specific rifle by the guy

in the shop, please remember im well 6ft 6ins tall and around 20 stone so something

to short or small wouldnt fit my build, what wuld u suggest at 500 quid would be best

for me? im looking at using it for a bitta pest control aswell as a bitta target shootin to.

so im gonna go with a 177 as i'll be doing alot more target than pest shootin, wud you

guys say the AATX200HC was as gud as the 97? or was the 97 way outa its league?

i'll check back later in today to see what responces i get, thanks for ur time in reading.

some say tx some say 97.

if i was you i would try a tx and a prosport if possible and see how they feel compared to your 97.

all 3 are top quality air rifles and you wont go wrong with either.

i own 2 97s but if i was right handed shooter one would have been making way for a tx so i could see which i prefered lol, unfortunately as a left handed shooter im stuck without a tx, unless i got a custom stock for one but then thats even more money lol. my 97's are good enough for me tho :)

hope this helps mate, good luck

SKoT

edit, another one to throw into the mix, a walther lgv. i didnt like that rifle tho personally. or a hw80

Skot I thought you could get a left handed tx200 just not a left handed pro sport. You might wanna look into it.

To the op I would suggest you look at the HW98 if your looking at using it for targets as well, full power heavy hw goodness with a bull barrel as well which makes it more accurate. It has a lovely custom look stock and an adjustable cheek piece to get the right head scope alignment.

If I ever get another break barrel it will be a HW98. Lovely accurate rifles. The tx200 is essentially the same as the 97 being a under leaver but with an even more artistic stock than the 97. The pro sport is a nice accurate rifle but won't leave you any change of 500 quid which means you won't have enough for a scope. Oh and just because it costs the most doesn't mean its anymore accurate.

Not many people sing the praises of the hw98 and it goes unnoticed alot of the time.

Hey kelvin, You say you are 6 foot 6, Well they dont realy get much bigger than a 97, but the tx stable of springers are no light weights either, The " try before you buy " is the way forward here mate, Dont be pushed into anything by the shop owner, you will know what is right for you instinctively. As to what is accurate, they all shoot as well as each other, but your right, .177 is what you need for target work, and if you feel like doing a bit of hunting, your well equipped. Try and get to a gun shop that has a range so you can try the rifles in live fire, remember, that first impression is usualy right. Good look with that search !

aight guys i jus thought i'd pop back with the events o the day, we went to a place in crawley

to originally look at some air arm PCP's and after shooting numerous guns i ended up opting

for a BSA Scorpion SE edition, tbh like i said above somewhere i dont know much about pcp

rifles or any for that matter but as it seemed to fit me well size wise & i felt i shota pretty good

grouping with it i decided to fork out close to 600 jus for the gun, on top of that i brought a dive

bottle, scope, gunbag, silencer and pellets eventually costing me close to 900 quids, someone

please tell me i made a gud choice with the scorpion, i also opted 4 the 22 cal & wooden stock.

ps - sorry 2 be a pain in the neck askin 4 advice on an airarms (springer) then selecting a BSA

PCP rifle lol ur advice was very helpfull tho and i was very close to selecting a spring tx200 rifle!

Just to go back to Skot and left hand TX200HC and rifle.

Skot, these two have been made in L/H versions since they were launched. I've got a .177 TX200HC MkIII with left hand loading port and in a stunningly sweet walnut left hand factory stock. I sold another to fund my HW97KT

It's the Pro Sport that's off the menu for us lefties! ;)
