04fox8 168
The story is half baked and in the Daily Wail, so for starters I would take their 'facts' with half a hundredweight of salt. The dogs were handed over on a 'leash' where did the leash come from? Was it the dogs leash or leashes that where on them when they escaped from the back of what looks like an open pick up? If it is the case why did the owner not secure the dogs so they couldn't escape? The guy that found them and handed them over to the farm worker happened to have a couple of extra leashes on his person while he was out walking his dogs? Why did he hand them over to the farm worker and not the dog warden? The rozzers found the dogs bodies under a pile of wood in a barn and just happened to have a ballistics expert with them who could tell the dogs had been shot with a bolt gun? The owner claims her dogs did no damage. As she couldn't find her dogs for hours how does she know the dogs did no damage? Shooting someones dogs for no good reason is uncalled for. But based on the selective 'facts' laid out in such a way to draw the reader to a predetermined conclusion in this story, I can't see how anyone can come to a proper conclusion about what happened on the scant half baked facts served up thus far. Most Logical balanced comments on here yet. It all seems a bit sketchy to say the least. For those who are miss calling the farmer/s...........I take it you all own acre upon acre of your own land to use?

littlefish 585
I wonder how long the farmer was going to hide two decomposing dogs under a pile of wood........Why not just bury or burn them? A strange tale indeed................
morton 5,368
A few months ago in the same area over 20 sheep were either mauled or killed by dogs, the local farmers were of the opinion it was lurcher owners. This woman had 3 dogs running free in the area, she lost them all and after searching for a couple of hours went home and reported them missing, the dogs were seen chasing sheep and two were caught and handed to the farmer,he then searched his land and found several dead lambs that had been ripped to bits by dogs,he went straight back to the barn and humanely killed the dogs,he later found aborted lambs and other mauled sheep. When he informed the police he was arrested, the dog owner who was the only person that commited an illegal act as not yet been charged with any offence, even though she,s commited several, the farmer did nothing illegal and has he stated "it won,t have been the first time the dogs have done it and dogs like that will do it again".Any dog out of control chasing and killing stock wants a bullet and the owners should face up their respnsibility. Why should a farmer have his livelihood threatened because some ignorant twat could,nt stock break their mutts and decided to then let them run free amongst sheep. If you cannot stocktrain your mutts, then accept the consequences of your own lazy stupidity. The barn burners and stock killers need to have a long hard look in a mirror.

Elaborate how the farmers actions were legal if the situation was in hand? Any dog out of control chasing and worrying stock is liable for a bullet and a farmer, landowner or one of their agents is legally covered to cull them, either straight away or within a reasonable time, sometimes they will not have the resource to do it at the time and may have to take them to a more suitable location. The farmer initially made arrangements for the dogs to be taken away and the owner to then recompense him, after finding his dead stock he was of the opinion, justified i beleive,to not let them have the chance to do again what he beleived the dogs had done on other occasions,The only person that broke any laws,to date,as not been charged, modern Britain for you.

Elaborate how the farmers actions were legal if the situation was in hand? the dog has been worrying livestock, has not left the vicinity and is not under the control of any person and there are no practicable means of ascertaining to whom it belongs. from section 9 of the animals act 1971 ... not sure where he would stand though using the above as justifying his actions

04fox8 168
If they were on my land, killing my stock, I'd shoot them. - Legal, Job done. Now, You get some scroat pans in your Audi window, takes your stereo and say your fancy phone, but he trips up, or you happen to come out and catch him. What would you do? Would your actions be legal? Obviously, you'd invite him in for a cup of tea and try to explain the error of his ways......You'd take on board that times were hard, or the fact that where he may come from, it's no big deal??? F**K Off! IF the dogs dun wrong, he was well within his rights! END OF!
