lets look at it in this sense here we are 213 pretty no different than the 50 s and 60s countrys going bollox up . now lurchering to some was for the table or the game dealer the plweasure was begot i

Deer seem to have that effect on many lurchers, derived from Pastoral/Herding types....   I've owned one or two lurchers, that after a few seasons on the rabbits, began to get a wee bit bored with t

thats not the question ...prick....and they wud b lurchers ....now f**k off and check what mix your wife is....instead of anoyin me

weasel.years ago preban when some dogs were used on mostly deer some but not all would not chase rabitts or hares .i have seen a dxg plodding behind a hare when a cwd has got up and it was like watching a different dog he was so fast the deer looked like he was thumbing a lift .if he wanted to he could have coursed hares ragged .dogs enterd on big prey animals can and will refuse to chase rabitts or hares no matter what blood is within them .chaseing a turning twisting hare uses far more energy and takes a greater effort to kill than a bigger animal .it is only natural for a lurcher to be selective.i can assure any one on this forum that if a dog is used on the big stuff a certain amount of those dogs no matter whaht their bloodlines .will refuse to chase rabitts and hares.it has nothing at all to do with useing bad bloodlines it has all to do with the dogs preferences .how often does a lion chase a small animal ?.if a dog with hare blindness as i call it was very hungry and it realised that it was rabitt or hare or starvation .it would naturally chase smaller objects becuse its exstreme hunger would force it to.but if big game is plentiful it will not.if you have a pup and you enter it onto big prey do not be surprised if after a while it develops rabit and hare blindness .if my dog was badly bred and was lacking keeness he would not have caught preban 9 cwd in one night and would not have pu;lled down fallow stags single handed

I agree with you b g, and it aint just gsd x's that prefer to run larger quarry. Had a dog bred out of hancock's taffy and a mongrelly but very greyhoundy bitch many years ago, he wasn't that fussed about rabbits, though he weren't too bad on em, but he was a far more determined dog on hares, and when on deer he was VERY good, and like you say, even fallow bucks singlehanded, which a couple of people I used to run with occasionally wouldn't believe, until I took them out and soon had them believing

Gee these threads become hard work no wonder lads dont bother posting any more.

Bunnys your right about show dogs thats why you look for dogs that are bred and do a job,Farm collie, gsd that did man work police work even obedience would be better than a pet or a dog tied to a chain looking hard in a scrap yard.Maybe thats why trying to find decent lurcher ain't so easy.

So if you had a gsdxgrey and put it to a coursing dog if you want wind it wouldn't have wind because theres not enough gsd in it.

As for the rest they hunt hares for miles. They pull up after a turn. They run 100 rabbits catch30.They dont run them at all.

To slow for rabbits catch 9 cwd.

The truth always outs as they, say im out of this one.
