Philluk 181
I've not done a write so here goes.. I rang the land owner to say I would be up at 3pm, on the way I drive past a field that has had deer grazing in the past there has been 100 or so fallow and its close to a road but on a bank, so I knocked on the door of the land owner after Christmas and had a chat explained I've seen many dead deer hit by cars and the numbers could do with thinning out, the owner agreed and said he would like them thinned out but his wife likes them, I said she doesn’t need to know and he agreed he said there are 4 fields and we agreed I can shoot in 2 of them the furthest from the house, I always carry the confirmation paperwork and he signed and I walked out happy. I walked the fields a few days later and worked out where I can shoot and often drive by and never see them until today where there were 60 odd. I parked up loaded the magazine and removed the lens covers and got camo’d up. I crept under the fence and stayed in the long grass until I came to the ditch, this ditch is lovely its dry and full of leaves, I cleared a lot of old sticks so I didn’t break them a while ago. Not today it was full of snow and water and I'm kneeling in it, now all I have to do is get the 55 ft away from the road and as I’m shooting downhill into a bank it’s all safe. The fat b*****d I am even crawled under a fallen tree Im now In position and they started to make their way in the same direction as me and they were behind a lot of bushes which allowed me to stand but bend and walk, I put a single bullet in the chamber and put on safety, I got the 100 yards from the road I wanted and the light wind was coming to my left so I was quite happy as I lay down bipod open, range 175 yds I watched a few very small ones playing before taking the shot on an old buck with 1 antler, the crack sent the others running some 30 yds closer they stopped and looked away from me in the direction of the buck who was even twitching I picked the back of the head of my second target, crack he dropped and then they got closer in fact they were 20 yds away so close the scope didn’t focus and they were all crammed together, obviously spotting me they took off at speed to the bottom of the field, I crossed the ditch on to the other side and waited as they came into site in the bottom of the field im in, heading for the exit where they cross the ditch and away at the bottom corner, I watched and one looked back in my direction and was on his own, this gave me the chance to pick number 3. Now it was exercise time and one by one I dragged them to the road, I have one of those things that clamps to the back of the jeep and they struggled to fit but a bit of rope and in they went. Now I must continue to the original farm and I parked up and put an old blanket under the dripping blood I hate to upset farmers, and walked to the high seat, as I got on the edge of the field I realised I had missed myappointment and the field had deer already in, the cheeky bu**ers were 20 ft from my high seat, I crept in my already wet trousers to the edge of the field behind a small bush and I couldn’t quite get a good angle so I half stood from behind a bramble bush on to the first rail of the post and rail fence where I could see 25 fallow grazing, I picked out a nice buck under a tree on the edge of the field and he went down sending the others into the woods at speed. Another 300 yard drag back to the jeep had to throw him over the others into the back of the jeep, as I threw him claret came out and went everywhere great!!! Home, all done, tagged and put in the chiller, its called the kennel but at the moment it’s a steady 1c in the fresh air the jeep looks like Rambo has been near it, so as people are coming home from work I'm outside in 1 deg washing my jeep you do get funny looks. Now it’s shower time. The pics will follow Edited March 13, 2013 by Philluk Quote Link to post
