3/4 Grey 1/4 Beddy

Recommended Posts

The problem with this cross (and any Bedlington cross) is that the Bedlington as a working dog is gone. I come from a mining family whose family kept the breed but that was in the 50's and no one (NO ONE) has the correct type now. I can remember a joiner from Lobley Hill, Gateshead had the last fighting pair but that was in 69/70. Happy to be corrected?

There are plenty of working beddys about. Not fighting no. But i dont really want my dog to fight other dogs! So i dont really see the fact that they no longer fight them as being a problem with the cross!

Mine has got plenty of top end speed and has no problem getting there. He is very biddable. Prey drive through the roof. Eager to please. Not yet tested his stamina and his rabbit taking technique needs some work but that will come with experience.

Most of these pics have been on another thread but here are some of mine anyway...

Very nice mate

Like the look of him. How old is he? what does he work like?

ATB

He is just under 2 or there abouts. Only had him a couple of weeks but i'm impressed so far. Next season will tell for sure

Rubbish, years ago i had a whippet X Bedlington, great little bitch game as they come, and the Bedlington she was bred off was a rabbiting dog.

there are good working bedlingtons on TWBF dogs that work below as well as on top,

A friend of mine has a bedlington X Whippet bred out of a Granitor strain of Bedlington, another top class rabbiting dog.now just had pups to a very good working Whippet. when I knew this Bitch was being bred I jumped at the chance.

The Bedlington was never bred as a rabbiting dog, yes they were crossed into Whippets to 'fire them up' but they were foremost a baiting/fighting dog, chuck them into a coal truck and see who comes out. Miners couldn't afford to keep specialised fighting dogs, when things got rough, the big dogs went, that's why The Blue Paul' the fighting bull from SW Northumberland went the journey.

Just another stupid post, from a man who said i hunted with B. Plummer, why don't you just disappear no one is interested that you hunted with plummer, and you know nothing a bout Bedlingtons.

I ve worked Lurchers for more than 45 years, and ive never met Plummer,

So why don't you go back to where you come from, regarding Plummer he never seen a decent bedlington.

I remember talking to Bill Brightmore who told Plummer where to get off. Bill had him sized up.
