scottish £20 note

i got a scottish 20 pound note in with a payment from a customer today,it was refused at a builders merchants,a newsagent and a pet shop,i thought it was legal tender and legally couldnt be refused,why dont people accept them here,or are they just such a rare sight :laugh:

they are legal tender just that peoplearnt aware of it i have had a lot of Scottish fiver's through where i work we make sure that they go to the bank and don't get used as till float money as a lot of people refuse to take them in there change :thumbs:

Didnt realise currency went that high in value North of the border.........Scotchman must have lost it, they would never spend it :D

WHATS the largest amount on one note in england is it £50 in scotland its £100 the reason for this is the english cant count high enough to use a ton note.

There was a piece on this very subject on tv this week. Apparently "legal tender" doesn't come into it apart from dealings between financial institutions. There is no risk involved for the shopkeeper or whoever because the Bank of Scotland deposits monies with the Bank of England to cover their "Currency". In all Shop/pub etc transactions the method of payment is by whatever means are agrred between the two parties. So next time you go out for a pint you could offer the barman a camel, 3 crickly bottom groats or your mother-in-law & so long as the barman is willing to accept then you have paid what it is you owe. :D:D:D
