COMPO 54
There are camera's that take pictures from the front and also some that take pics from the back, the ones that take the pic from the front are so you cant deny being the driver the others the registered keeper has to state who was driving, either way you should have a notice of intended prosecution (NIP) within 2 weeks, and the opportunity to view the picture (primary disclosure-where the prosecuting authority have to show you what they have on you) after the NIP you can either send your licence and the cheque or contest it and go to court. Speed camera's are pretty much a done deal and you are very unlikely to win by going to court, however if you have mitigation (i.e. an excuse for breaking the law) then contest the ticket with a cover letter and hope they drop it! I know that the vast majority of contested parking tickets are simply revoked as it costs too much for them to take you to court. I dont know about speed camera's and how many are revoked when appealed. Check the road leading upto the camera , there has to be signs approaching the camera telling you both the speed limit and the fact there is a camera present, if either of these are defaced/vandalised/obstructed/insufficently lit etc....then contest it with supporting pictures and you may be OK. As a rule the cameras are set slightly above the limit at 10% plus 2mph, so 35 in a 30, 46 in a 40 etc..however that is just a guide and not definitive the lines on the road are for them to estimate your speed, some area's now dont have lines and they have other markers that they use for these estimations, some white lines have been altered to accomodate these sums, others have marks on kerb stones. Best bet Molly is check out the signs etc..approaching the Camera, work out a reason why you were rushing (a workmate used the fact his girlfriend had rung him drunk and crying having become stranded in the next village, he was unable to ascertain why she was crying and he feared for her safety etc....) then wait two weeks to see if you get a NIP, and if you do contest it on the facts that the sign was unlit/obscured by branches (whatever) and your young female friend had rung you having been stranded for whatever reason and you were rushing to rescue her!! Good luck
Guest baldie
Cameras only work from behind. I drive through four every morning , and they,ve never flashed me [not admitting to breaking the speed limit however ] Get in a car with a good quality camera alarm, my traffic master has one built in, and it only bleeps for camera,s on my side of the road. Was there actually a camera in the box moll? they look like a cd with a slot across their middle, if the screen is just black, its empty. There seems to be a habit round me, where people dress them up with a car tyre, thats full of petrol , for some strange reason. SINDASOX 256
Has anyone ever tried that stuff you spray on your number plate, so that the camera cant read the plate tidy, they were selling it up the Midland one year. SINDASOX

highlander 0
No molly they only take pictures of the back number plates. Well I have a Road Angel and it only tells you the cameras as you come up to the from the back if theyre on the other side it says nothing it tells you what speed you should be doing for the camera and also tells you were the accident blackspots are too which is handy. My sat nav however shouts at you for cameras on bothsides and ones that aint there drives me f**king crazy. Regards highlander.
