Waz 4,253
Kevin Maddocks self published, not sure how many times 'Carp Fever' has been reprinted; more than once though. Minority interests are of not much commercial interest to a publishing house I would have thought. A friend has written 10 books or so, Amazon top x lists. He's written a specialist fieldsports book & done it as an e book. Says it all imo. Edited March 12, 2013 by GD Waz Quote Link to post
paulf 820
so do we know when the book is out ? Quote Link to post
inan 841
A genuine question, do authors self publish because no publisher rates their work or is it the writers way of not paying royalties therefore financial, or just to write it as they see it and have no one edit out what they've written. That is a good question fellah,..and deserving of an answer.... I'm not much of a writer,..I'm a Mole Trapper/Rabbiter ; I work for the gold doubloons, but, also enjoy the weekend craic with like minded souls,..always have, always will. The writing game is pretty straight forward, it is no mystery.... Years ago,..before the advent of the Internet,...it was a difficult thing for 'lads like us',..to get published. Folk that were, in the know, kept things very much to themselves and for many lads, the idea of 'doing a book',..simply was not feasible. There has always been, what is known in the trade as 'Vanity Publishing',..this is a medium whereby poets, and writers of fictional Novels , etc,..can PAY a Publisher to undertake the production of their work, and to put everything together for them.. For little known subjects, and things that are a wee bit of a risk,..this is often the only way for some folk to get their treatise seen. There are other ways,..and as such, they often involve handing a manuscript to a Publisher who will, once again, get everything Typeset, Proof read, Printed and bound, etc, and will give the author a retainer, and the chance to purchase some of their own books back, at a reduced rate...But basically,..the Publisher takes the lion's share of the vonga. A Self Publisher can be someone,..who, although having possibly turned down,..several well known publishing houses over the years ...decides to 'have a go' and puts up ALL the required cash to pay for the project and thereby keeps, EVERYTHING for himself. Financially, this can be a risky old game,...and personally I salute any man or woman, that has the nerve to play it... In conclusion, folk write books for several different reasons,...for some it is obviously the money, for others, it is therapy All the best, CHALKWARREN... Coming soon,....
