Brewman 1,192
Evening folks, As per the title I am trying to find out about decent rods that could double as a trout rod as well. I am new to fishing but have a salmon river nearby and have been meaning to take it up for a few years now. The river is wide in some places so this may influence the length. Thanks in advance. Brewman 1,192
A spinning rod, I have seen some ugly sticks but it was a fella selling it so no surprise he said it was all I would need. What reel would be a good one? Cheers Quote Link to post
revij22 113
ugly sticks are good all round spinning rod ,ive got a 8ft which i use on the rivers and 10ft for use from the coast .AS for reels shimano are good go for something with 5 bearings mate and i prefer front drag Quote Link to post
Dazzam 239
I use a 7ft Wilderness XT with a Shimano Aernos 2500 for spinning for trout on my local reservoirs and an 8ft Wilderness XT with a Shimano Aernos 4000 if i'm going spinning for salmon but i have a few mates who just use a decent 8ft rod for both reservoirs and rivers whether spinning or bait fishing. bunny tickler 876
daiwa whisker for the salmon with a shimano baitrunner 6000 that handle anything you hook 1 Quote Link to post
AirgunGuy 362
Something around 9ft with a casting weight of 15g to 40g would be fine. Would hold a decent fish no problem. Might be a wee bit overkill on brownies though. I definitely wouldnt go too light. Would much rather have the backbone for a decent fish. You dont want to be hookin a 20lber on a twig ;-) As for reels...shimano baitrunners are as good as they come ;+) Edited March 12, 2013 by AirgunGuy Quote Link to post
lifelong cumbrian 1,826
Daiwa whisker 8ft, try and pick the older model up from ebay, better than new model. Quote Link to post

gouldy257 79
get a shimano 6000 or 8000 better with a 6000 as the 8000 a bit heavier but all in to good reels mate your chatting around 60 to pound so don't be surprised there dear lol Quote Link to post

Brewman 1,192
Thanks for that its given all the info I need. The Drowes looks good for a few days away. Only prob is my boiler bill came in and it made my eyes water so the rod has taken a back seat for a short while. Quote Link to post
