lurchergrrl 1,441
Ever notice how, when the vet asks if you're insured and you say no, they end up doing the bare minimum and usually that's good enough. Say yes and suddenly the bill is £600 and the dog gets better medical care than you would? No wonder premiums are so high. 2 Quote Link to post
Lab 10,979
Anyone ever tried saying "No i'm not insured".....get your price and then at the last moment say "Oops sorry i forgot i do have insurance!".... Quote Link to post

ratpackjack 272
I think lab is onto something BUT you know if that was the case they would find something that HAD to be done and their words would be "well at least your insured" Quote Link to post
nothernlite 18,076
never had insurance and never intend to either does it not go up in price every year ? Quote Link to post
LaraCroft 863
For some dogs, yes - and "lurcher" as a breed has a higher premium than " x bred " - as do some breeds, like staffies, bull types etc I have mine insured - I don't have to claim, and try ( although I am the first to admit I don't always succeed ) to make sure my decision on what treatment my dog needs is not made on whether it is affordable/insured-payed but based on what is best for the dog. I will cope with most wounds myself, but the balance of stitches/clips, local anaesthetic and general anaesthetic has to be weighed up to. Treating your own animals is one thing, but stitching a wound that size with no form of local/general anaesthetic would put you in the realms of " causing unnecessary pain" Quote Link to post
cammy12 176
am not sure if i read the terms [BANNED TEXT] but i think your sacs membership covers your dog while working or showing anybody else read that? woulnt want people paying twice if there a member Quote Link to post

RossM 8,092
My vet as I thought was not happy, she goes in tomorrow to get redone, and he says it's not going to cost me a penny so that's a wee bonus. Regarding the shoddy workmanship he's phoning vetsnow tomorrow. And I will be on phone too, half the things on the invoice were unessassary even if it was a vet job. Invoiced for metacam but given loxicom a bit fraudulent me thinks. The stitches used were completely irrappropriate and the fact they covered up the wound with no drain wasn't ideal either. As many and he said, a few staples and a drain would have been suffice. 1 Quote Link to post

Sorry to hear the dog needs more treatment ( sorry for the dog, if you get what I mean - but it does need doing ) but I am glad it is being sorted. Quote Link to post

RossM 8,092
As I said to the vet, I know what could have been done, I know what should've been done but if I'm paying for it I expect it to be done right. 2 Quote Link to post
