DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
It says that a referee must not be a member of your immediate family, definitions of "immediate family" vary. I have just had my girlfriends dad sign and act as a referee, we are not married and even if we were I would not consider an in-law as immediate family. Anyone see a problem with this? Also my other referee is a retired army officer and is about 75 and disabled so he filled in the forms there and then when I went to visit him, so I posted his countersigned forms off in a separate envelope ect. The man is paralysed down one side so impossible for him to post it himself. Anyone see a problem with this? Cheers..... Quote Link to post

The one 8,551
with out looking doesn't it say any upstanding member of the community ?. which basically means anybody Quote Link to post
Deano88 9
Any upstanding member of the community is for a Shotgun cert I believe. I have just received my shotgun and FAC (Coterminous). For my FAC I used my Girlfriend as she is not immediate family in the eyes of the law and a senior manager from my work. I also used my manager from work for my shotgun as I could not get a signature anytime soon from a doctor/ upstanding member of community etc and I had no troubles with the grant of my certificates. This was with the Norfolk constabulary so yours may differ but I can not see any issues. I have read various forums on this issue prior to my application and read many people stating that the "upstanding member" condition was slightly relaxed to the argument that not everyone socialises in circles with people of this stature and that this was not a fair refusal of an applicant as knowing someone of stature does not guarantee your safety with a firearm. I believe they now consider people of an equivalent standing such as a Business manager or someone of an equal level with a clean background. Again this is by no means official and will vary between constabularies, but hopefully yours will be as understanding as Norfolk. Good Luck 1 Quote Link to post
