everyone moans about the ruination of our native terrier breeds ,then when someone suggests working one they get shot down on here. if its cheap ,why not try it as a busher/ratter. also what i find

Genetically the potentials there but............the breeding through previous generations has probably not had hunting ability taken into consideration so the odds would be stacked against them being

I agree with the above but we have a small Cocker X poodle that is work mad, bush's, rats, and goes to ground, very controlable, much better than some so called working spaners i,v seen, put any dog i

Westies, like Scotties do have excellent potential genetically, but for so long have been bred for looks, not for hunting. You do get pups that throw back to their hunting heritage but the chances would be very slim and it would be pot luck! I hope this helps

Now I know I'm rocking the boat a bit here , I've always been under the illusion Westies where lap dogs and the Majority probably are , well a bloke I know who was lookin after his Dads 2 Westies came out for a mooch and brought The "Lap Dogs" . . I couldn't off been more Wrong . . These 2 where hunting up , robust hardy Fukcers , for the couple of hours we where out they weren't fazed by any terrain , water ect , in fact they looked at home , I then asked him about there history ect , my mate and his Dad fish for scallops , Queenies , they use to go up round Dura (spelling) Area up Scotland somewhere lol , and he got them both up that Area , same litter both dogs , for bushing/ferreting (if broken to ferrets) these 2 would off earned the right in any Kennel ,and the Jackets on them weren't whispy thin like most you see though these pair live outside which I think benefits a coat , everyday these dogs are out on the boat when there Fishing , these Pair are Certanily no Lap Dogs !

My first terrier was a westie x jack , cant say she worked to ground but ratted and bushed with the my mates dogs no problem

Sadly killed at 15 months old so she never had a chance to shine , but she certainly started off on the right path

2nd dog was a border x jack from working parents ( suposidely :hmm: )complete waste of space only terrier that ive had that had no interest in any type of work
