jigsaw 11,863
Had a call from willy yesterday,a large new herd of smellies had appeared out of nowhere and was munching on the hils just a donkeys roar from his grazing land,so could I have a gander and shoo them up the hills a bit.Rose this morning at 7.30.and the son and I decided to bring the 1st x sal/hound and scout the gaskin bred dog for a look about and if the oppertunity arose maybe have a run on them.we drove to the abandoned farm and parked up.We walked a bit and through the gorse, the dogs walking loose,Sonic climbed the ridge above us and he was intently staring at something so we decided it best to get a hold of him before he got himself in trouble.how little did i know these words would come true shortly after.as we got a bit closer to him,his ears pricked up and he was away.Scout after him even though he hadnt a clue why he was runing.Down into the ridge face and in and out ogf the young ash and birch trees.Out of sight they went and then a goat in distress was heard,we ran as fast as our legs could safetly manage it.Kevin came across a young kid that sonic was after grabing,i expect once the herd took off this little feller was too slow to keep up and the dog came upon him first and so took it out.The scout was missing at this point, from above me I saw a billy moving fast and a string of goats were coming up the face behind him,all i single file and moveing as fast as goats do.I liftedd the gun, picked a billy and droped him with the shot.I then try to move in to see another when we heard a scream unlike any other,I knew instinctively it wwas scout and kevin made his way to him.He was standing there still and screaming in pain,on close inspection his front left leg was shattered in to many pieces.I was sick.I took the instant decision and ended his pain, the poor b*****d.He was only 13 months old.he took a hare a few weeks ago on the run and was starting to clue in well.So as it goes the goats had their revenge of sorts I suppose. All part and parcel of this hunting buisness I suppose but not nice to see and experience no matter how long your in the game.anyhow heres a few photos of the end of day carry on,we skinned the billy in situ and kevin posed for a few photos. jigsaw 11,863
the longer the day goes on the more sickening it becomes, what the hell can you do in these situations but grin and bear it.I left him where he fell, and believe it or not I was telling a member on here tyhe likelyhood of this happening up there with a dog,it came back to bite me in the ass fairly quickly.

Strong Stuff 2,171
Sorry to hear that mate, lucky you were able to do the necessary there and then, the dog didn't have to suffer too long. That goat just looks weird tied up like that all empty, like some sort of freaky puppet show.Your day couldn't have been more different than mine, but I best keep mine to myself
