Gaz_1989 9,539
Wish I could stumble across them by accident around here Gaz you may think that now.But picture this scenario, walking along with your wife, just a casual stroll alongside your local power station, your 'well trained' lurcher puts out 2 roe deer out of a small patch of rough ground and proceeds to course one of them straight through a carpark (plenty of workers going about their business. It is no fun i can assure you. thankfuly the dog is pish and the deer made good its escape. I have never been so relieved.(the whole area is cctv'd. I struggle to get somewhere to let the dog off. Pernod Yeh I see your point. Surely better than not having them around though? If they were around here in those numbers then I would just keep the dogs on the leads when in such situations Quote Link to post

If they were around here in those numbers then I would just keep the dogs on the leads when in such situations Round here munties and roe are in plague proportions. Was walking my bull/grey the other day around a lake i bailiff and he stuck his nose to the ground and ran a trio of roe straight into the lake and then proceeded to attatch himself to a big doe. I had to go in waist deep to pull out the tangle of dog and deer closely watched by a mate who had waders on!! Even when lamping bunnies local its nothing to see double figures of munty and roe in a few hours. Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,738
I've not had a lot to do with Muntjac,...they are bit of a mystery,... But,..my wee ferreting dog had an encounter, with a large Buck recently and I was surprised just how determined and wriggly they can be. Edited March 25, 2013 by CHALKWARREN Quote Link to post
fitchet 788
Chalkwarren the little spike is nothing mate. Your dog will soon get the hang of them. I have a dog here that will shake them relentlessly. My pups first run in with an angry tusker . Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,738
Yeah, it was no big deal,.but the spike went up into the muscle for a fair way and I lost my marking dog for a full week ... I cannot afford to lose her during March /April,..so I think you are right,...shake rattle and roll,...that is obviously the way forward,...I'll pass that info, onto the speckled whippet..
