I think you know what makes a good fox dog worthy of the 'title'   My opinion, for what its worth: The lurcher should be a proficient lamper, following the beam, looking for those eyes... running ou

He was a decent fox dog - on the lamp and through the day - a little fractious with terriers tho and he got worse as he got older...killed his last fox at 10 years old - and was dead within weeks af

One of the best fox dogs I ever had was a big ex-flapping fawn greyhound bitch - got her from a local greyhound man away back in the early 80s with a view to breeding 1st x collie x greys...she never

A wheaten pointer.... would be some tough fecking mutt! (wooly aligator)

But whats it going to catch

Pork.. (edit). as well as hunting/flushing, tracking shot game, catching and holding big game that may have been shot, so needing stopped for dispatch etc

I'm straying off topic now though, but your totally right. I used to kill tons of foxes but not any more. When I did I got hold of the best tool for the job in my opinion, and that opinion is still the same today, a well bred, line bred Bull Lurcher wont be beaten for daily vermin control day and night.

Ive got bullx....Ive got pointers.... There is nothing wrong with a good bullx nose at all, they can hunt like a hound, and coupled with extreme prey drive.

I wouldnt be adding pointer to make an improvement to a foxing lurcher, the bull cross has it all, except for the harsh winter proof coat, and if fit and well looked after stamina shouldnt be an issue... but I do a lot more than fox these days.... again, it was off topic, sorry for the confusion mate

you wont beat a pointer x grey hard as nails

Seen a few that were decent. Hunted moors really well, found and killed fine...

I own pure wirehair pointers.

But for an out n out vermin muncher, bull cross are in my opinion, top of the tree. Their coat is sometimes too thin though, the ammount of days weve put one to ground, and my bull lurchers have had to sit about in the shittest weather, makes for a sorry sight lol until charlie bolted anyway!

have you/would you use your pure wireheads on a greyhound?

also do they do a good job of hunting/flushing fox themselves?

always liked the look of them

i know of 2 wirehead x greys and at 13 months were well into double figures also i heard that a lot of keeper boys are getting shot of there bullx as the pointer x greys are doing the job better realy good staminar im well impressed with what ive seen and heard about them

i keep hearing stuff about pointer/gey first cross but getting hold of one seems a harder proposition

You can use him but its going to be a hefty old stud fee as hes a 100% garaunteed fox dog.

Why does anyone think that a lurcher or bull x would need extra nose added to the mix to hunt fox?.......foxes smell that much and it's so distinctive that a human can almost hunt one by nose never mind a dog!

I have seen a bully type lurcher catch a field mouse in the dark using just its nose and ears to pin point then just bending down to pick it up!!!

Why anyone thinks any type of dog needs MORE nose for a quarry like fox is beyond me

Because most people have never seen a properly bred bullcross given the opertunity to show what they are capable of if given the chance.
