be nice to see a GWP to bullx. Find a racy 3/8 bull and put it over the GWP. Keep a racy one and a a heavy pup between you and a good mate. Cull the rest then compare how they run/hunt/dispatch the quarry. As hill dogs they could be just the ticket

I think you know what makes a good fox dog worthy of the 'title'   My opinion, for what its worth: The lurcher should be a proficient lamper, following the beam, looking for those eyes... running ou

He was a decent fox dog - on the lamp and through the day - a little fractious with terriers tho and he got worse as he got older...killed his last fox at 10 years old - and was dead within weeks af

One of the best fox dogs I ever had was a big ex-flapping fawn greyhound bitch - got her from a local greyhound man away back in the early 80s with a view to breeding 1st x collie x greys...she never

Might add a bit of nose to the bullcross but cant see it adding anything in the dispatch department and i dont think they would catch a lot as they would be less than a third greyhound.

A wheaten pointer.... would be some tough fecking mutt! (wooly aligator)

But whats it going to catch

the lurcher x pointer i have seen will catch, not saying you'd want to be doing 100 yard+ slips on massive stubbles, but it will catch.

I thought we was talking about all round fox dogs which to me means they have to do it all so imo the ability to catch in all situations is the biggest must and again imo that means the dog needs to be at least half greyhound.

wrong, we were specifically talking about rough coated lurcher x gundog crosses that are a bit heavy but hunt well and catch the odd one, keep up FFS

They would add plenty enough nose for game finding. I have seen gwp's dispatch foxes well enough. As for just one third greyhound not being enough, you maybe right. That was my thinking behind keeping one of each type and seeing how things panned out. A quarter bull maybe just the ticket for speed in the cross. Having said that I have had collie x's that had less than half running dog have plenty enough pace. Not arguing just exchanging thoughts

Cheers, Trench

just jesting mate, you're probably right.

Lol i was going to suggest american bulldog x alsation as i had a ab that caught one once and my mates alsation caught 3 round his farm.

Then cross it with an Italian grey hound to add pace. Guaranteed to have the power and the pace!

you wont beat a pointer x grey hard as nails

Seen a few that were decent. Hunted moors really well, found and killed fine...

I own pure wirehair pointers.

But for an out n out vermin muncher, bull cross are in my opinion, top of the tree. Their coat is sometimes too thin though, the ammount of days weve put one to ground, and my bull lurchers have had to sit about in the shittest weather, makes for a sorry sight lol until charlie bolted anyway!

have you/would you use your pure wireheads on a greyhound?

also do they do a good job of hunting/flushing fox themselves?

always liked the look of them

i know of 2 wirehead x greys and at 13 months were well into double figures also i heard that a lot of keeper boys are getting shot of there bullx as the pointer x greys are doing the job better realy good staminar im well impressed with what ive seen and heard about them
