charlie caller 3,654
You dont say what calibre you are hoping to get open,it will be easier to get say a .22lr opened after only two years than say a .308,it will depend to a large extent on how much ammo you have put through it,the best advice I can give you is if you can get a supporting letter from soeone who shoots open ticket with your calibre or above, saying that in there opinion you are suitable for the open condition, this will help you enormously, good luck. TWOTWOTHREE 152
Hi I had my sgc granted back in 1994 and fac in 2007,so I decided to Write a letter to them asking for the fac to be open and give them the reasons, I did this after only 6 months on 22lr and 17hmr, I had 223 too but didn't need to open that as where I shot that was plenty big enough,I explained that I was allowed to shoot upto the edge of the land deemed suitable by them but the adjoining land was identical but out of bounds,I said I was fully aware of the responsibilities regarding safe shots and the capabilities of each round,I went on to say I had other farms wanting pest control, etc etc,I sent it and received a answer,No without a real explanation exept it said due to my lack of ammo usage I have to decline your request for an open condition,i was not happy,I had probably had more experience shooting than most by the time I was 20,its been a way of life for me,anyway I wrote back disputing the decision,i explained i didnt shoot ammo for the fun of it to waste then asked for wat they classed as enough? Then said if im allowed to hold a fac in the first place and trusted me to shoot the land you deemed suitable responsibly would I not shoot other land safely?I asked for reply, sent my cert with it in the post it came back 3 week later,no explanation just opened, result,im not saying argue with them if they refuse just state your case,on renewal last week my 223 was opened without asking, Atb Quote Link to post
fox head 0
twotwothree thats awsome mate good for you im out shooting foxes about three to four times a week i hope they give me an open ticket as i got loads of farms i can shoot.i will let you know how i get on. Quote Link to post
delswal 3,819
when i got my certificate it automatically came as an open licence ? just named one farm suitable for firearms ..... .22 .22 hornet .243 .308 all open. North Yorkshire police must be of the understanding as stated by twotwothree, that if a person is deemed suitable and trustworthy to shoot over nominated land they are trustworthy enough to shoot over land deemed suitable by the shooter............shame rest of the uk firearms licence departments don't follow suit. TWOTWOTHREE 152
Good luck just go for it, just show them it will aid you shooting and by putting their trust in a shooter already deemed acceptable to own firearms, and a good way to gain more experience and permission cos being on a restricted ticket is holding you back, open or closed personally the person pulling the trigger is responsible, don't forget to send your ticket with the request,I woundnt ring and ask, put pen to paper, also as Charlie caller says get a shooting buddy to vouch for you, one with an open cert Atb Quote Link to post
halamrose 24
It seems to me that they just need to have a justification to put in your file. You can keep asking: do you want ot check this list of farms or give me an open ticket? They have to show they have done thier jobs properly, even though the definition of properly might be a bit vauge. Give them what they need and you have a good chance of getting what you want. kenj 131
I was living in South Bucks and had my FAC with air rifle, .22lr and HMR from farms I'd shot with the 12 lb air rifle. When I got another farm, I asked the FO to meet me to approve the farm. He came out, walked the farm with me, which he approved for HMR, then suggested applying for an open ticket to save him the bother of coming out again, as he thought I was suitable after only two years. If you have other farms, get him to come out to them, it's his job. Quote Link to post

Yes it is a pain, but that's what everyone else has to do, keep asking the Police to check the land and the odds are they too will find it a pain. That's a good route to an unrestricted FAC! Might be stating the obvious here but have you actually checked if your other farms are passed? Quote Link to post
