I like alot of different types of music, my musical taste vary alot and I was doing some mooching about on Youtube for some folk music and came across this tune called Worcester city by a bird called Eliza Carthy.

Her old man Martin Carthy sounds good aswell on the Wife of Ushers Well song (which has Eliza playing the fiddle on it aswell). Never heard of them before but I realy enjoyed these songs and I'm well impressed with these pair I am. Does anyone here know anything about any other artists similar to these pair?

 " Show of Hands " are the absolute and utter Dogs b*llocks! Ossie put me onto them. I have their studio album, " Countrylife " on here. Almost wore the damn speakers out playing it!

They have a web site or two. Worth a look :)

Funny. I was thinking about Maddy Prior only last night. Must've been inspired by having spotted the title of this thread.

Ah mate thats bang on that is, Eliza is something special IMO, and her old man is very good aswell! They just seem to capture a mood for me that only a few very special musicians are able to do, especialy Eliza, she's truly brilliant. I'm defenately going to pick up some of her albums.

It's amazing that we've got so much talent in musicians like Eliza Carthy yet our TV's and radio's are stuck playing so much American sh!te and British acts trying to be American! That radio friendly bs we're fed daily is basically the equivalent of what fast food is to the catering industry, just a quick fix thats no good for you at all.

i agree the only folk related radio prog is mike hardings folk on 2 but thats not always on . even the contemperary folk is nt getting a plug. take a look at the folk festivals 1000 s of people go to these venues . theres a folk club on somewhere every night of the week so its not a unpopular scene . patman.
