I am making a long net to go around shipping containers when ferreting , It is about 8 yards long so a fair bit to go , A couple of questions with the top and bottom lines is it one long loop of cord ,or two seperate pieces ,, And when i have enough net do i just stop or add a selvedge mesh across the ends for strength

Thanks

Hey Tomo

I am using a 21/8 mesh board so that gives me 41/4 correct ?? ,, Better to have a bit to much net than not enough ,, I am goin away this weekend campin so i will sit around making my net longer

So your going for the traditional net, a spliced loop... You only want to thread your lines through the top row and bottom row of meshes, not down the side edges, I dont know if you knew this, but I seen its not been mentioned, same as the selvedge, just along the two longest edges of the finished net. Appologies if I`ve read it wrong.

If it was me, I would be thinking about stopping at 12 yards and make a 6 yard stop net, with 100% bagging, they come in handy when using longnets. Then start a new net at 14 meshes, plus selvedge. It would make a nicer net, use less materials, get finished quicker and be a bit lighter to carry.

Its like

You can wear baggy trousers, but when they to tight, no good for things down there

But if there too baggy you trip over them and they get caught on things :)

;) Terry tell them how many meshes deep the little night net is.

I made this 13 meshes with a mesh size of 4.25 including the selvedge

But my first net that I wasn't happy with so I didn't bother with selvedge and that was only 12 meshes and seems to catch nice any way

But I think general opinion is 13-15 :)
