Country Joe 1,411
I feed my Whippet one pound of raw daily, Beef or Chicken or Rabbit, with brown rice or biscuit plus veg. he rarely eats the biscuit or rice, but my mate gave me a handful of Gain which I mixed with his meat, and he cleaned the plate. I contacted the rep who because i wish to carry on feeding Raw Meat, I should use the Gain 20%. But also advised i should use this supplement, i know its their job to sell but what do think of this diet? http://www.gainfeeds.com/greyhound/garmivit
B.P.R 2,798
That wont load for me. I know loads of people who use gain....and its good stuff. The feeds place local (kind of)...didnt stock it until i pointed her towards it... Its now by far her best seller by what im told I would just feed the biscuits on their own or mixed in with some raw. Mine are looking good on it...or so i think. a cod liver tablet in there once a day and a bit of veg as and when. Ive got both 20 and 28% in the shed. One thing i DID notice...was they had written on their bags of 20 & 28%..."SUITABLE FOR PUPPIES, LACTATING AND NURSING BITCHES".... So people were feeding their pups them...and not the more expensive 'puppy and sapling'... They must have clocked on... because the bags dont say that anymore Out of curiosity...how much are you paying for a bag? Country Joe 1,411
If feeding raw meat with the gain 20% with veg, and powdered seaweed cod liver oil once a week, what or would be the advantage of this supplement?

B.P.R 2,798
You asked the benefit of feeding the garmavit. With a diet of the gain, raw and veg....i cant see the benefit apart form you being £20 worse off and garmavit having 1kilo less of stock

richard-and-juno 0
Hi All, We have a rescue Lurcher (not idea of cross) and we started feeding on James Wellbeloved, which seemed to get him into great condition, got some weight (muscle) on him, but it's bleedin expensive at around forty quid a bag. Have since tried a bag of Redmills Racer which appears to be ok, a lot cheaper. I have now read that this is probably not the best and Gain 20/28 might be better. He's not a 'working' dog although he does go after wabbits and the occaisional deer if we don't see them first! He gets plenty of off lead running every day. Just looking for any other foods I should consider. Does Gain give managable stools? (Nothing worse than trying to bag a steaming pile of slurry!) Also, anywhere online I can get it without getting stung for shipping? (I found Lawson's so far) Cheers, Richard.
LaraCroft 863
I found that most dry foods are " ok " depending on quality - but you need to spend the higher end of £35+ per 15kg bag for it. I now feed mine raw - not only do they look good, good coats, muscle and teeth - but the other end is manageable too. I have 5, so as you can imagine, I don't want to be clearing up tons of sloppy rubbish every day. On raw, they each go once daily average - which is nicely timed to happen on the lunchtime walk. Nice looking dogs, good coats, nice teeth, and minimal garden/road collection.
