Elliott 436
I know all barrels are different and its usually a case of testing different brands of ammo through your rifle but its an expensive thing to do in the .17HMR caliber. I've heard that most, if not all of the HMR rounds are made in the same factory and I'd like to know what round the .17HMR users are using. I started with CCI GamePoints in 20grns and played with the Hornady 17grns. Think I'm going to give the Hornady another go as the last batch of CCI's weren't very good. So, what rounds have you found best in your HMR? Quote Link to post

dedger 16
Hi, Mine didn't like the 20gr either but loves the 17gr hornady and shoots well with the winchesters also, but I mainly use the hornady's because they are accurate and the cheapest to buy near me at £9 a box, I can't believe the difference in prices from shop to shop!! in one place they were asking £16.50 for the same round so it pays to look around before you buy. Elliott 436
£9 per box is cheap, my RFD wants £13. per box of the Hornady's. Where's your local shop? Quote Link to post

Deker 3,478
MY HMR was ammo fussy when new, I tried just about every 17g available, and it didn't like the 20g at all. That was several 1000's of rounds ago, when I eventually decided to use up all the part used boxes I had left the difference in performance was all but undetectable and it even handles the 20g ok now. Seems to me you have to get the barrel well run in and LOOK AFTER IT, and it will serve you well, frankly the same as all rifle barrels. I tend to use Hornady Blue these days whenever I can, they are the cheapest I can get and they work! As a general comment I find the HMR excels with the 17g V-MAX and there is very little that the 20g is any use for! Quote Link to post
halamrose 24
I tried the 20grain on Saturday and found 4 ot of 5 was accurate then I'd get one which shot an inch or two low at 100yds. Still tuning up the rifle but just about getting 1inch groups with the 17grains, cant remember the btand though. When I had the feeding problem accuracy was awfull too. Quote Link to post
