Recommended Posts

I'm new to the site so if this post is a bit sketchy please bare with me. I'm looking in to gettin a ferret this coming week I've grown up with dogs from a young age, but since i moved to Devon i had to leave my dog with my parents and really miss not having a pet so after many months of thinking about getting a ferret im finally goin to get 1. Eventually i would like to go hunting with it but im gunna wait for it to settle in and get used to havin a pet agen before i do start as its been 3 yes since last havin a pet. I'm also goin to be doin it on a budget so any help and advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Jim

Get 2 or more, they're social animals. And wait about 2 more months. There will be hundreds all over the country, with kits. Also, give them as much space as you can. They love a good run around. No milk as they're lactose intolerant, and no caffeine after 8, otherwise you'll never get them to bed! Hehe.

Before starting to work them if you never have done this before recomend going out with someone that has been working ferrets you will find a locator and collar very useful. If the ferret is a mature hob best not to introduce a second hob-Jill until the rutting seaon has finished Agree with Bunny boiler give as much room as possible letting them out for exercise and handling them every day if only lifting them then setting them done again Avoid feeding pork chickin and rabbit being part of the main diet personal i feed what I can get in the summer pigeon crows etc

The best training you can give a young ferret is plenty of handling don't make the mistake of snatching them up (you'll get bit for your troubles & also this leads to another problem called skulking where the ferret will stand at the mouth of a warren & every time you go to pick him up he darts back in out of hands reach) plenty of gentle handling & play with them it all builds trust & will make them easer to work with.
