lurchers4life 103
Hey Ive got a jack russel bitch and shes around 10-11 months old Ive give her a few rabbit skins and shel go through bushes in my garden and mark them up all day long and shes bonkers for them The first twice i took her out she worked most of the day with two working terriers and she marked once But now the last few times shes been out shes been reluctant to do any cover my mates terrier wil knock rabbits up and shel chase them then somtimes shel smash the cover and other times she wont bother but unless she sees a rabbit she wont bother Shes been out with lurchers alot so could it be shes used to walking the hedges? And what can i do to stop her doing this? Ive stop taking her out with my lurchers the last week and she done abit of cover this morning Its just baffled me how shes gone from coming along spectacular to not doing nuthing could anyone give me advice? It would be much apreciated Quote Link to post

stormyboy 1,352
Terriers hunted in a pack adopt different roles-some hunt some watch for a kill. With a young dog,the dogs she works with will have a bearing on the role she takes. Work her alone for a while and she will probably hunt up herself. 2 Quote Link to post
oldred58 340
Some times if you work more than one terrier, Some will think they are a lucher, And click if they saty out of the cover they have more chance of a run, ,Like you say, she is young. GOOD LUCK Quote Link to post
fireman 10,865
Stormyboy is right and with my 3 terriers the plummer now stays outside the thicket unless she knows something is there and leave all the ear tearing bramble work to the russells, yet work her on her own and she'll bush straight in.Does my head in sometimes but that is the way dogs have allways worked as a pack and who the feck am i to try to change it? ,hunters and catchers in any pack of any sort . johnharris 177
Give her time, I have had terriers smashing cover at 5 months others take up to 18 months or longer. Just get her out to areas that hold game as often as you can Quote Link to post

csd_88 138
take her out on her own a few times inbetween going out with the pack she'll have to go in then if she wants them. Quote Link to post
Attack Fell Terrier 864
Maybe she will only fly into the cover if she smells there's something in there? Quote Link to post
