wilbert 6
Most nights when me and my mate go out lamping we see the same fox in the same field and we never get the chance for a shot. It never stops still. I'm not saying it runs off at speed but it just trots across the field. It doesn't look too bothered about the lamp as it doesn't change it's behaviour. It is always seen at a distance of 150 to 300m and is not interested in any calls and usually has some form of cover between us. Only once has it stopped still for a few seconds but then there was no safe backstop so no shot taken even though the cross hairs were on the kill zone. Not had any problems with other foxes on this land but this bugger is giving us the run around. Any tips on how to approach this next time we see him? Quote Link to post
3175darren 1,100
Sit out on him, by now you will know his general route, and timings do your home work, sit and wait with the wind in your face, although you are in to the breeding season,is he doing any damage?would it be wise to leave him till crops come down,it can sometimes be bad to remove the devil you know,as he will keep the ones you dont know out of his teritory, having said that if you got a farmer about to lamb he will want it gone, allso the keeper will be glad to see him downed, Quote Link to post
toby63 1,236
if it dosent come you go to it.try to cut it off but make sure the wind is in your favor.they do alot of sniffing around this time of year due to mateing .also if you have some 1 with you with shotgun can be productive.or where else fails bait it up for a week and get yourself up a tree or sumet and wait. richmcgin 32
Pin a dead rabbit out, and wait for him, dont go chasing after him that can be very bad for both safety and the foxes perception of what is happening, spook him and it may be months before you get another chance at him. I have had dozens like this over the years and i admit i have not solved the problem every time but patients and a couple of dead rabbits normally sees me through. Quote Link to post
