Woody Sunday

Recommended Posts

out this morning before 6 , set my maggy decoy up on a pole at the side of the stables ,which is not far from a good sitter tree, had about ahours wait untill i got my first shot ,it was a maggy ,came in very quite and fully focused on the decoy ,put the crosshairs on it ,pulled the trigger and down it went ,

next in the tree for me was 3 stock doves which are off limits to us shooters ,there as been a pair nesting here every year ive been shooting here ,which is about 8, ,they do have there uses ,they decoy the woodys in , they also returning after every shot as though nothing happened ,manage 4 woody and them peace

couldn't find the maggy ,probley one of the feral cats taking advantage of a easy meal

Hey mate, quick question what colour is your pole and is it quite visable to other birds, I tried some woodie decoys the other day on bamboo but I was worried that the sandy colour of the bamboo would scare birds off more than draw them in

hi Craig, mine was a green plastic garden pole ,i only wanted the decoy to be about a ft higher than the stable roof, think a lot use bamboo with good results,

Thanks for posting. Got the makings of a tastey dish there!

thanks milegajo  ,i,am not the best cook like to keep it simple, fried with very little oil and then a good splash of balsamic vinegar on some nice bread

Nice shooting, always good to get a few Woodies!

Pigeon seems delicious however you have it. I love a bit of garlic as per one of moles excellent recipes.

i like a bit of garlic ,it keeps our lass away :D

cheers mate thanks, so you don't reakon the pigeon will be scared of the pole?

hi craig,i think your movement is more likely to scare it than the pole, try it in differant setting and watch from a good distance and see what happens

well done on the maggy mate always good to know another bites the dust -nice rifle mate -billy
