fitchet 788
Ive only done abit at night with the long nets. Its a good laugh but id rather be out with the dogs on a dark and windy night. The advice i can give is dont wear wellies dont wear watches or too many buttons and allways get over a gate hinge side. The best way too learn is get out there and practice !! And aslong as there arnt many hares or munties about its a good way to fill the freezer on "funny" land. Atb. Quote Link to post

Joonsy 38
and allways get over a gate hinge side. and better still if possible always go ''under'' the gate not over, even if that means crawling, never ever show your silhouette against the sky unless you like empty nets, always pay attention to the background cover, never twang wire fences, setting net quietly is more important than setting net fast (being quiet and fast will only come with experience), direction of wind is more important than its speed in both spooking the rabbits and setting the net and hilly country will deflect wind direction, if possible approach set directly from behind with wind in your face not at an angle across the field, be patient and persistent and when things inevitably go wrong remember experience only comes from making mistakes in the first place, and remember you can only catch what is there (not what you ''wish'' to be there) so be realistic about the numbers on any particular set, consider night time temperatures netting on frosty nights is useless. Enjoy the learning curve and have fun, persistence brings experience to use setting/weather conditions to advantage. 2 Quote Link to post
woz 260
I honestly love being out with the nets..I even took time and pride converting my jacket...were as I'm fairly careful when using the lamp and dog with the nets my only serious consideration is the rabbits.....I spent every night for three weeks with the caterpult and lunchen meat training the keepers dogs to be quite and not bark when I was netting 50 yards away lol...... 2 Quote Link to post

Thats dedication for you I love the feeling working in complete darkness though it never actually seems dark enough. I could never master it as a youngster never had the patience but now I have plenty Live stock is all ways a concern so upto date reconnaissance is vital or a call to the landowner if circumstances dictate 1 Quote Link to post
