Nikko Stirling Mount Master¿ Any Good?

I favour Hawke, but Nikko Sterling certainly do the job. I prefer scopes that i dont feel too precious about. I dont abuse my kit, but let's face it out in the field;

It certainly does happen,and thats the thing about niko and hawke, they are reasonably sturdy tool for a dirty job, and cheap enought to replace if you do screw one up,and lets face it you feel a lot happier laying one of them on the ground,while you check your mole traps, than a swaro or zeise,

if they hold zero and the feature work then there good ?????

 

features as in turrets work ao works nothing fell off......

Some people have found when they first came out water leaked in and couldn't clear, but that has been sorted now, also some people don't find the glass clear, but I love mine:)

yea read on a other forum that the leaking has been sorted.

 

as for glass clarity i would say its as good as my mtc which i was not impressed with only because of price.

Scopes are just like anything, personal preference, and also I honestly feel people feel safer spending a lot of money because its like they automatically have to be good because of the price

This was the first scope I had, it came with my first HW80. I found it excellent. I thought I needed a better scope and 'upgraded' to a hawke varmint II but there was not much difference in my opinion, maybe the varmint was slightly clearer but it's horses for courses and at 40yards absolute maximum for bunnies it was a pretty pointless upgrade.

 

I've since got pregressively smaller scopes and now my TX sports a Simmons WTC at a 40mm diameter and 30/30 ret.

I agree with alot of that, but some people buy as status symbols as well,but then if they are in a position to put the best on there guns, then thats fine,but for every rabbit shot with a top end scope, there's hundreds if not thousands shot with a run of the mill workhorse,and you rarely see detailed indepth reveiw's of cheap scopes say £200 and below,I often wonder what the sales percentages in numbers of cheap to expensive scopes,and some times wonder if the big companies could be missing a chance, to allso dominate the cheaper end of the scope market,if you look at our american counterparts they use gear that works, yes I know some throw huge amoints of money at there gear,but the average guy just wants something that will fill the pot,and be reliable,they are not all multi millionaires,just down to earth people like us with a underlying love of hunting,so they wont tolerate crap they will just take it back and complain,in this country the market is pushing scopes a £1000 pound and above,very proactively,however there's loads of mid range scopes that if you are not doing super long range target shooting,will slot rabbit or charlie out to reasonable safe ranges,but the big magazines dont seem to do comparison's on them, as they probably get most of there advetiseing money from the big top end scope producer's/importers,and dont want to damage there business,

yer I quite agree mate. Maybe im just jealous not having the money to afford such expensive scope. My s200 was a leap and a half at the price, especially after the dive tank and moderater etc etc. I love my mountmaster tho really really do. I also feel that the ranges I shoot at I don't need a very expensive scope. pureply because im just not needing it to be as accurate. My mountmaster hits the bill for me so im happy , I just think some people take forgranted such cheap things, automatically casting them off because they have to be bad for that price.

well lads got my mount master. zerod it and well its bollocks it blurry around edges and when i adjust ao for better focus the zero goes off by a inch +.

 

so contacted seller and explained my findings he said yes we have problems with the ao alot.

Well I really am disappointed in it mate, I'm sorry that you picked up a bad one. Just shows you Unfortunatly. I absolutely love my mountmaster. Maybe look at a hawke or something?

I have a Nikko Sterling Platinum that I inherited when she who must be obeyed bought herself a PCP (recently I might add, on going story with photos). Now this thing has had a hard life, it is chipped, bashed, it looks like a football for a team of robots, but it is STILL working properly. I am a big Hawke fan, but this 3-9x40 AO bashed up sight is still working properly. It is clear, it has a duplex reticle (not my favourite so it has gone on the QB, it is more than good enough for that) and has a certain appeal I suppose, (because of its resilience). The turrets still work too!

I've got a mountmaster on my air rifle. Never had any problems with it.
