Whippet Hound Bitch Wanted To Be Lined With Bedlington

Recommended Posts

Il have a look rory. But i have to say im not confident about finding one bred from actual true and tested terriers. I read 150 pages on this site that was aimed at anyone that had a bedlington terrier that was actually doing regular earth work. There might have been 1 or 2 i cant remember but i do know it didnt inspire me with confidence in finding a beddy whippet hound bred from a real working beddy. Im not saying there is no such thing but i have to wonder, out of ten litters of beddyxwhippetxhounds advertised , how many are from truly tested terriers . The closest thing ive ever seen to a working beddy ( not a hybrid) was the parents of the dog that i have.

I dont know his name. Honestly when he told me on the phone that pups were from working dogs i thougjt to myself " yeh right pal " but i wasnt that pushed at the time as all i was after was a terrier dog with a good coat, enough prey drive to work cover , good nose for marking and not really inclined to drop to ground when not expected . But when i met up with him he brought the parents to show me. And they both showed signs of grafting especially the father, he was butchered. He told me dam was a bayer and father was hard and used more for end of digs than actual digging. rillington lines apparently.

Can I also ask, seen as the dog will not yet have even seen a full hard season. What if after a couple it decides that even rabbiting is no longer for him? What will you then do with his offspring will you keep running them on rabbits hoping that after a couple of seasons they don't get put off rabbits? What if next season he starts opening up? All of the above qualities you have mentioned the dog has will be worth nothing if he doesn't keep them season after season! Just saying as I had a very promising dog did excellent his first season the next season when I showed him some more he jacked the lot so it can and does happen. Now if I had bred a litter out of that dog after his first season on what I had seen I would have thought the dog would only improve but in reality I would have produced a litter of probably worthless jackers

Atb with what ever you decide to do but that's my thoughts on breeding such a young dog

I cant believe what I'm reading, surely a wind up? Brenner I find it hard to take you've been into the dogs a while if you're seriously considering breeding from a pup that has done nothing, if you can find a muppet/peddlar that will humour you that is. As said, if you're looking for a pup buy one in from proven parents. Working beddies may be in short supply but I'll bet theres plenty out there being bred from that are far more suitable than your own, dont take this the wrong way mate but if you actually believe in what you're intending you need your head looking at or take up another hobbie

F. M girl thats unfortunate that dog gave up on you. Maybe its more common than my experience with bushing dogs has shown me but ive never seen a keen young terrier give up working cover once it has started. honestly i would be very surprised to see that happen but you have seen it. Corky john, yeh its funny you should mention a new hobbie, i was thinking about taking back up knitting lol. might just buy a whippet and knit the dog a nice jacket, save me looking for a good beddy x. folks if anyone can show me a beddyx whippet hound pup for sale thats bred from a tried and proven game little bedlington i would take your hand off to get it. Iknow mine is not an ideal situation but the fact my dog is only a year old does not take away from the fact that hes an exceptional little rabbiting terrier ie. Bushing, marking/ ferreting. I would be looking for a good little rabbiting dog from the cross im not lookinfg for an out and out fox killer

Folks i will have to leave you all to it im afraid. I didnt stick an add for a debate and i wouldnt be in the habit of explaining my self to anyone nor have i got enough hours in the day to do it. In fairness i should have expected this response given the chancyness of what i was thinking of doing. it would not be my ussual mind set regarding working dogs. So i bow out of this one.

I've read some pish in my time, christ i've even wrote some. But when you find yourself tryng to justify why on earth you would breed from a pup, maybe its time you gave the idea of breeding 'working' stock a bit more thought. An believe me an end of the dig, chewed faced grandsire wouldnt instill my breeding program with confidence.

The only statement you made that i agree on is the 'take up knitting' i think you could produce better mittens and jumpers than pups.

Pernod your pretty much repeating what others have said already but just different wording. Well done for that . ive put my hand up and said already that i realise this was a bad plan. I just recently got let down with a rabbit dog i was hopeful about and i suppose out of pure frustration i wasnt thinking or aproaching the situation with the same school of thought i would normally use. A moment of weakness you could say . not one of my proudest moments i must admit. I see in your post what you said about me knitting mittens and i noticed john and Chris clicked the "i like " button. Does this mean you three would be interested in a nice pair??? They could look quite fetching i think.

If there is anyone else that wants to jump on the band wagon and say the same thing again in a different way feel free folks it could be a handy one for racking up your "likes " for your profile page.

P.s. Pernod in your post you said youve " read some pish in your time " ive seen this word pish being used on here before and i dont know what it means. does it mean piss as in urine??? Are you saying that you have read some urine in your time?? Genuine question!

Im sorry mate your posts are just too clever for me.

Either that, or you just talk pish.

Perhaps if you breed your pup you could end up with pish pups.

Happy hunting whatever you chose to do.

I and my mates are all greatly skilled with air rifles from just sitting in the back of our gardens with targets roughly 50-100yards and want to move onto small game so if anyone knows of anyone in cornwall that would give us permission please let me know.

Hi, we're having a sudden rat infestation on our small holding in North Cotswolds. Wondering if there are any people around with ratting dogs who want a bit of work?
