Puppies develop their long distance eyesight later than their other senses. Sense of smell is the most powerful sense at a very young age, and the only sense, apart from touch, that is present at birt

Yes really common....next time you spot something and you think your pup should see it too..get down on your hands a knees and take a look from the pups hight you'll be shocked how little you can see.

Feck me baw leve the lad alone ne asked a question as he did not no, the pup is just sniffing the world around it the new smells etc...it will put its orn game up if it hunts..atb

I know someone who taped a dog's arse up year's ago because it would not stop farting in the car.. :D ..maybe you could do that to the pup's nose.. :whistling: ..

I have a 6 month old whippet and recently whilst walking him I have seen the odd bunny. However, he doesn't notice them as he is always too busy sniffing the ground. Is this common in young pups?

Its posts like this. That make you wonder.Who do these people learn off if anyone. :icon_eek:

On a serious note.. they is nothing wrong with a pup sniffing the floor..for all you know they could of been a bunnie there 2min's before you arrived..it's all new to him and what he learn's now will benifit him in the future..

If you are worried about him doing it when he is older use a shorter lead and once he has worked out what his mince pie's are for you will see a different dog..just be patient..rome was not built in a day... :victory: ..or so they say.. :D

This is the first dog i have ever owned and i am new to it all. I didnt say i let him off the lead to chase things. Even with my limited knowledge i know thats not sensible at his age.

as i said, i have never owned a dog before and i thought i asked a reasonable question. i admit i dont know much about dogs and would like to learn, hence the reason why i joined this forum.

A whippet is a sighthound and i just thought its a bit strange that hes constantly got his nose to the floor rather than looking around whilst walking. Considering the fact i know very little about dogs i dont think my question was as stupid as some of you are making out.

some people on here are brilliant and very helpful so thanks to you guys for your advice. To the people who know it all and are giving me a hard time for asking a question- you are very lucky that you were born with such a vast wealth of knowledge. it must have been brilliant to grow up and learn things without having to ask people questions.

I must have learnt from the same person who taught you how to write a sentence.
