Had Hob Vasectomised Today

This will be the third hob I've had snipped over the years. I always get one of the previous season's young done to maximise his 'working life.' I never take them out hunting. I use my own vet as the current one is quite skilled in all matters ferret, but it has been interesting in the past, when trying to find the best price, having to explain to veterinary receptionists that you require vasectomy and not castration.

They ask if you want the tissue sent away so they can see if they have cut off the right bit thats another thirty five quid , i said dont bother if you havent you can have all the kits from the jills

I paid £78 to have mine done yesterday. They quoted £60 but then said that they'd made a mistake and had quoted me the price for a castration by mistake. When i went to pick him up none of the nurses

That was one of the questions the vet asked me. I'm led to believe it can still be done if they haven't dropped but it makes the operation that bit easier if they have already dropped.

i had the same problems, i called one place for a price and the message on the machine when i got home was " castration price is ect ect" needless to say i didnt call back when i reiterated many times in the initial enquiry it was for a vasectomy lol.

On another note.

What would the actual legal standing be if you requested a vasectomy and got a castration? Personally i've never looked into it.

I don't think a matter like that would reach the court, but it would be a compensation Issue. The value would be cost of ferret plus cost of vasectomy. So about £100 to you as the claimant, while the lawyers all make thousands.

fair point, i didnt mean clam wise i ment on a point of negligence are vets under a similar thing as doctors or not, sure if someones hob was rendered "useless" if the hob was only bought for covering in season jills(rendered useless then) a claim would be possibly taken, if that happened to me i would morethan likely skip the courts and ask the vets for jill jabs free of charge for the season. I dont know the law or the ethics on it just a thought.

I had my hob done today to cost me £47.50 he still bit sleepy from the op goota take him back in three days just to check he ok.

that sounds a bit odd, is the revisit going to cost you?, as they usually use dissolvable sutures and only advise going back if there is any problems?

No the re visit is free just want to see how he is. Im guessin its just part there service as they are a small little vet unit that i never knew about and a fellow hunter advised me about. The hob is fine though
