Warning Ilegal Snares In Scotland.

I was helping to run the snaring course with SACS on Friday I do the admin but I sat through the course anyway. I think a lot of people are going to fall foul of the new law starting on April the 1st no its not a wind up anyone in possesion of snares of any type after that date can be prosecuted. That means any old snares in your garden shed will get you the jail. UNLESS you have a licence issued by the Police I will post more info once I have sorted out more relevant info.

so even if they have them they can still get done. say if some one had 50 rabbit fence snares but not in the loop form could they still get done for owning them

The way it stands if you have any snares rabbit fox or any other type that do not have a stop at the right distance from the end you will be comiting an offence. Further to this if you have ANY snares and you are on land you don't have permission to snare on you are commiting an offence if you are enroute to your permission then you have good reason to be in possesion of them. Remember this only applies to Scotland at this time.

what i mean is, if someone had some hanging in a shed they could still get done, people have gin traps hanging in their sheds but dont use them, why should someone get 'trained' for having snares in the shed.

Why fcuking bother at all?

 

Years ago i used to set a few snares in likely spots and check them every day. Twice a day if i could. Loved every minute of it...the fieldcraft involved....

 

Now they want you to mark your snares so baghead jonny knows where they are to nick them....

 

And put your id number etc on them so when mrs smith from number 53 wants to complain about rabbits being snared on her morning jogging route..... the ARSEpca know whos door to come to.

 

Why not spray them orange with flashing lights and a copy of your driving license ane passport attached

 

Snaring will be banned soon enough..along with lurcher work daya and nighta and ferreting

 

And once thats done then catapults will be restricted.

 

In 10 years you get found in posession of a slip lead or a ball bearing youll be nicked

Yes took it all in and got number back pretty quick. Have to agree with you BPR, a stop on a rabbit snare FFS its a joke.

hugo straker, ian clark. and glen waters have a letter of exemption which states they can have snares in their possession for demonstration purposes even of the locking kind,,as for snares hanging in the shed as long as they are legal free running even without stops and are not locking snares you you are ok but after the 1st of april you need to have your licence and tag no to set wires if the snares are in your possesion you dont need a licence to own them if your not setting them as long as the snares are as stated free running at the moment this applies in scotland only

What a load of sh**!

So, Say I have 300 snares hanging in my shed awaiting me to fit stops, I'm commiting an offence?

Or, Am I only commiting an offence if I have the Certificate etc that say's I'm a 'good guy', but oops, I've found these hanging here.

 

Take the end of the snare back through the eyelet and what have I got hanging there......300 bits of wire of a convenient length c/w hanging eyes...

 

All references I have seen to these courses keep saying there has been plenty time and locations for us all to have done it by now......I beg to differ, as I work away 1/2 the time, by the time I get back they are either filled up, too far away, or some which may have been convenient are for 'members only'

 

Anything to make it awkward and hope it puts folk off the idea of snaring.

It's just a way of harrassing the 'decent' guy who regularly does as he should.

Do they think they will catch many 'Dodgers' with this approach? They're not likely to have their snares tagged are they!!

if you have any locking snares of any type you are commiting an offence period !! .but if you have say 2 or three hundred old style rabbit snares with out stops you will not be prosecuted or commit an offence as long as you do not intend to use them and you do not need to possess a licence or a tag number to have them hanging in your shed,this has been confirmed after several phone calls to the scotish office and talks with john grey who deals with snares ect. but if you use them and are caught you will be prosecuted and this legislation only applies north of the border at the moment thank god ,,,,,
