New Devices To Help Ferreters

Recommended Posts

When I first started Ferreting, there was no locators,

Do you now think we have went as far as possible.

Or what do you think we will be using in the future?

With electronics moving so fast, I think locators could change altogether.

the way things are going maybe in the future ferrets will be fitted with miniature head cameras with a link to your mobile phone to show live film and spades will be operated automatically by a switch with a little engine like a hedge strimmer so manual digging will be eliminated. i too started out ferreting in pre-locator days with liners and podgers when being quiet and patient was important, the arrival of the locator was a great improvement on multiple digs however.

The wicked bas*ard i would like to snap his fuc*ing teeth out or knock them out what is the matter with these people.

It's only in recent years that its fairly common to use jill jabs, vasectomy, castration etc. Even when i was growing up things like a complete ferret meal was unheard off. Not only has the technology

I agree, Ferret welfare has improved drastically, unfortunately I would feed bread and milk, especially in the Summer. but now with the completes, and as you say Jill jabs etc and forums like this g

or a miniture spade could be implanted in the ferrets arse and it can dig itself out :toast: cant imagine ferreting without a locator.

you won't need a ferret at all because they will be replaced by radio-controlled robots requiring no feeding, housing, or vets bills, but the government will cash in and make you pay for an operators licence.

Thank god things like ferret welfare have moved on ferrets used to be kept by some in dreadfull conditions and fed even worse. what with websites like this one etc newbies can pick up info how to look after there ferrets properly. What equipment they will need to go ferreting and how to use it properly

I used to go ferreting in the 50s with both my granddads ,their ferrets were always in good condition and wellcared for,i knew a few people who kept them aswell, they too looked after them, you are talking bollocks mate

I know nothing about the other makes of locator used for terriers but have often heard people saying good things about Bellman and Flint and have often wondered why they don't also make a ferret locator. Is there some particular reason for this and am I just being dense?

Think they couldn't make the collars small enough

That makes sense; thought it might be something simple like that. I get on ok with the mark 3 but it's what I started with so I have no experience of the 1 and 2 to compare it to either favourably or otherwise.

The Bellman & Flint collars and locators are bloody good for working the terriers, however the technology is just too big for ferrets collars is how I understood it after a discussion with the fella at Bellman and Flint. Shame really as they are a good firm to deal with.

Ive said this a few times, with the big money that Mark1s still make on Ebay, you would think Deben would have noticed, and bring out a updated mark1 with all new parts and bright new colour.

and i think they would be able to make the collars smaller.

with the big demand for mark1s, you would think someone could bring out something similar.

always thought a micro chip thats like a dog chip that could be picked up by the finder would be canny, then the ferret would no longer have use for the clumpy collar

I feed mine copper shavings in with their food. Works a treat.

Went ferreting with a lad to help him out once.

Told me he had kept ferrets for 5 years...but these were his new ones...

Went on to explain that he kept ferrets over summer....then come winter when it got cold he sold them for 20 quid...

Then got a new set in the summer, sold them in the winter....had dome this for 5 or more years.

Told him what i thought and fecked off.

Seen him soon after on another forum saying he had mated his jill and once the kits were 8 weeks he was selling as a job lot.....

Same lad took ferrets off an ill man...ferrets the guy had bred for some years....took them at a steal under the premis that they was looked after, good home...

Few days later they are all on gumtree for....yes... 20,quid.

WANKERR.
