Hw 80 Tuning

Recommended Posts

hi guys i fitted a v-mack kit in my 80 last year but i have started wondering if getting a full tune from sfs would make her sweeter too shoot . As is she will put 5 pellets under a 5p at 25m if i do my part. The reason for question is i have been watching zini's 97kt and it seems too shoot alot smoother , i understand its a diff gun to the 80 ie under lever to break barrel but my head saes it cant be that much . the v-mack kit is giving ten shot strings with single figure deviations but the trigger has never been touched so a tune will improve that but im not sure what tunes sfs do the gun originally came from their so i would like the work done by them .

have any of you guys got a sfs tune on your 80 how does it compare to a stock 80 , what tunes do you have stage 1 or 2 whats the recoil like my 80 with the v-mack in it is better than standard but feels sluggish too shoot if that makes sense

whats work take on it guys

Hey Webster

You need to check out this guy. http://www.airguntech.com/.

This guy post's a lot on the airgun bbs and it seems there's not much he doesn't know.

The main difference between the 80 and the 97 (other than the breakbarrel/underlever) is that the HW80 was designed for export power levels. To do this they gave it a 30mm piston as apposed to the 97's 26mm piston. That will give it very different firing characteristics. To get a firing cycle near to that of a well sorted 97, I would imagine you would need to have your 80's cylinder sleeved to allow it to run with 26mm piston. While your at it, you could have the piston buttoned. This is where the Venom Lazaglide style of tuning comes in. This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to tuning. A lot of it could be done by yourself if you are a hands on person with access to lathe and other machine shop tools. If not, I would imagine that an sfs stage 2 tune would be just the ticket to get your 80 shooting as sweet as a nut!

Had one for a long time, strip it and put new piston and seal kit in, leave spring alone as very very good, pack with the correct amount of grease and job done, forgot to mention, get it over a chronograph as they have an unnerving tendency to go over 12ftlbs with age and no modifications, meaning when you come to sell it or trade it in at gun shop you can get in a spot of bother, or worse still if you get pulled by police you would then be on a very narrow street to county court.
