ratpackjack 272
How old is the dog? a young dog is easy to teach but a older one may cause you problems,i have seen older dogs that lads have tried to break to ferrets kill the jill when she shows in a moment of madness...best to teach em young if poss i introduce them to one another and when pup snaps at ferret i scold him a little ,then they usually sniff and lick the ferret i praise that its usually as simple and as fast as that and then they see one another drink from same bowl etc.I would say that if i was going to introduce a pup to a ferret i would use one i trust that at most will nip pup not clamp and hang on as that will not end well in a few mths Quote Link to post
silentpoacher 14
hes just coming up to 8months i will try what you've said alot of people say a bite from the ferret will keep the dog well away is this true ??? Quote Link to post
morton 5,368
Educate the dog,its very little trouble and training to stock break a dog, cows, sheep even ferrets, why some struggle with it is sometimes beyond my comprehension, move certain members dinner plate 7 inch and they would starve to death. 3 Quote Link to post
ratpackjack 272
Yup i agree ,mine are steady as can be around stock and never had a problem with the ferrets as from young pups they learnt that the stinker is their friend. But i have seen lads with dogs that are ment to be broken to ferrets ragg a jill when she pops out and then they blame the dog its the idiot on the other end of the lead not the dogs fault. 1 Quote Link to post

silentpoacher 14
i wasnt to sure whether to let the ferret do it or not but i might give it a go Quote Link to post
BS40liam 203
Could go either way tho, your dog might be different and one bite from a ferret might make him want to kill the ferret more Quote Link to post
