Gaz_1989 9,539
I would try and tape it to the toe next to it to give it a wee bit support and shape to heal. Ok thanks.
skycat 6,174
I've said this several times before: taking a hind toe off isn't (generally) as devastating as taking a front toe off. The hind foot provides the power from behind, but doesn't suffer the same type of punishment as a front foot. If the toe is taken off by someone that knows running dogs then the dog may lose a tiny bit of speed, not enough to affect a lurcher, but where milliseconds count in a racing Grey could be the difference between winning and losing a race. I've had lurchers had hind toes off, no problem whatsoever and run on very rough ground.

Sirius 1,391
I had a front toe removed from a dog due to a bone infection. It was a outside fore foot. Dog ran the same after maybe not so good on the turn but still put plenty In the game bag. The most important advice is to get a specialist greyhound vet to do the surgery. I went to my local vet and they fecked it up and didn't remove enough bone which caused a lot of problems. In the end I got the dog referred to a specialist vet and had it operated on costing all in £1500!!!
stabba 10,745
Depends what you are running the dog (quarry wise i mean). In sayin that ive seen plenty with toes of(front and back) over the years and they still filled the freezer. I reckon it would maybe affect a 3 out of 3 dog but if its just general lamping and mooching then i couldnt see a problem

Gaz_1989 9,539
It's been 6 days today since the break and over the past couple of days she's started putting a bit of weight on it. Today she is walking on it completely and only hobbling on it now and again. I'm going to give her another week kept in. Then just road walk for a few months and see how she goes. Cheers GaZ

Giro 2,648
Have you had it X rayed fella?? Was it dislocated, fractured ??? I would leave it longer than 2 weeks before you are lead walking.. Your in no rush the seasons gone now.. I would try and strap the toe, for what its worth it may not provide any support but may stop the dog bearing weight.. I personally would limit its exercise 4/5 weeks and then light lead walks no free running.. I have rushed feet and it just makes them go again.. Had a bitch that broke nearly every toe.. Its a ball ache for sure..
