The Seeker 3,048
IMHO... ipad - great for emails, reading books, basic internet stuff, videos, being more portable etc but the touch screen can be annoying, and more easy to damage screen laptop ( I have a macbook air ) - keyboard makes typing easier, good for whole internet stuff (office work, spreadsheets etc ) and more robust +

Malt 379
I use an iPad 2 90% of the time these days, I watch a lot of sport on it with sky go and I like the function you have on iPlayer to download TV shows and watch them offline. This one's also been jailbroken, so I have a lot of extra functions that aren't available on a standard iPad. I have a load of emulators on it now for retro gaming too, you can link a wii remote up to it no problem at all. We got my boy a nexus 7 for his birthday this year, I'm seriously impressed with it for the price. You can connect a Playstation 3 remote with a cheap £3 adaptor and it then becomes a powerful portable games console with it cheap games.. Having said that, tablets are great but they are not really a substitute for a laptop, which IMO isn't a great substitute for a proper desktop. I made the decision to rid the front room of my big computer desk and ageing desktop and get an iPad, but I miss my desktop if I'm honest. It's up in the bedroom now and I still use it for burning the odd CD or DVD..
Attack Fell Terrier 864
If you only want something to surf the web then get an iPad. If you want something that's portable for the web and other things like word processing etc, then get a lappy.

What extras do you get if you jailbreak your iPad ??? .........Loads of tweaks to what's already on there, most useful one i've found so far is the quick settings menu on the drop down notification bar: Apps that you can't get from the App Store any more or loads of alternative apps that you can't get. The jailbreak comes with an installer called cydia that kind of acts like the apple App Store but you can set it to get apps from a few different sources. Some sources are all above board, but some take you off into the greyer areas and allow you access to apps that allow you to install the normal App Store apps for free, if you're into stuff like that.. Most useful thing I've found with it is it makes it simple for moving stuff like films, music and pictures on the 'Pad from your PC without you having to run through the hoops that Apple make you run through with iTunes. It totally unrestricts your iPad and allows you to use it more like a computer..

Malt 379
Sounds good how do I get it lol ??? Go here on your laptop, download the relevant version, plug your iPad into the computer and run it! http://www.evasi0njailbreak.com/ If you do decide to put it on, some apps and tweaks require a restart like a PC and for a minute make it look like the iPad has crashed/froze. It's normal, but a bit worrying when your playing about with a tablet that cost a few hundred quid!
Paid 935
Is it true that it voids warranty ? or is that a mac rumour ?

Malt 379
Is it true that it voids warranty ? or is that a mac rumour ?It does, but you can wipe it off and go back to normal at any time.. I waited until the pad was 12 months old just to be on the safe side though. I haven't had a problem with mine.. I reckon it's like anything on the net, if you instal stuff from reputable places you don't get issues..
