deerdogs 418
honestly, why would you want to cross them? 1 Quote Link to post
Britishbull24 131
The only reason I'd see for crossing them is to put the Outcross into the Plummer. To add some working ability into your Plummer line. 4 Quote Link to post
dymented 2,220
they make cracking bushing dogs Quote Link to post
oyama 27
Personally I don't see the reason, other maybe a bit more earthdog. As far as a bushing machine a Plummer needs no infusion of any breed . Let alone a Patterdale. The Patterdales skill is earthwork, not bushing. 3 Quote Link to post
tinytiger 828
plummer in "diary of a hunter" said that his best workers were plummer/patterdale/plummer crosses.I have a 1/4 plummer,1/2 patterdale myself -shes coming on fairly well-The plummer she was bred off wasnt afraid of the dark either though Quote Link to post

volvine 0
honestly, why would you want to cross them? i just wondered if it was a common practise and did it add possatives to both breeds. Quote Link to post
wirral countryman 2,110
I've bred about 15 litters of plummer/nuttalls fells, first and second cross and bred a lot of outstanding earthdogs, they also made good bushing/all round dogs, the first cross in my opinion were better seeming to take the better qualities from both breeds, but I must add both parents on all occassions were heavilly worked,WM This is the kind of pup you get from a smooth coated fell and this is the sort from a rough coated patt I found using a rough coated dog to the plummer that the litter would be split 50/50 on coats, colourwise and type. I still maintain Plummer made a mistake using a bullcross for the "new blood" as it took too long and too much litter wastage to breed out and reduce the size back to the stuff we're seeing today,if there is a male red smooth coated patt that is a decent earthdog out there at the moment that is available for stud then please pm me,many thanks,WM 2 Quote Link to post
