Nostraditch is right though. Apart from the ice cap bit, as I was conducting an experiment the other day to prove that one wrong. As we all know, most of the ice on the poles of our planet is floating about. So it is displacing the same weight of water. Try it out like I did. Get a glass of vodka ( or what ever you like to drink with ice ) and drop a few ice cubes in it so they dont touch the bottom of the glass and mark the vodka level on the glass. When they have melted the level will not have changed ....... if you can wait that long without drinking the stuff, as that is the hard part of the experiment. But hey ho, the things we do, pushing the frontiers of science . :drink: :drink:

The ice is above the water because A:most of it is freshwater and compressed snow and B: Ice is lighter then water as water has its dencest stage at +4C and expands after that, wich is why lakes and rivers start to freeze over from the top down. Try it with a glass of water and some ice cubes as above and you wil see, that you will not have to move your towel 300 m. up the beach in 10 years time :drink: :drink:
