Rake aboot 4,936
OOOOH !! Had my interview for my renewal today, and ended up with a slot being added for .270 Keen to get my hands on one. I know a couple who use them and love them, very fast, very flat, and throw heavy bullets at a fair lick. Only neg I`ve heard so far is that .308 is cheaper to reload. Not that that bothers me. Caprelous 217
Nothing wrong with 270 caliber, used one for 30 years plus and its the first rifle i reach for out of the cabinet. and i shoot mainly roe deer although shot other species of deer with it. The bad press it has in relation to it kicking like a mule is a load of bollocks its a gentle push. The only thing it does have a habit of doing is muzzle lift as you loose you sight picture through the scope , but once got used to outperforms other calibers. It also used to be the standard caliber for all forestry commission rangers as its more than capable of taking all species of deer and also capable of dropping on the spot porky grunter. as well as most Large game with the exception of the biggist Quote Link to post
sussex 5,777
I'm in the fat barsteward size ,belive me it aint a gentle push. may be the ammo i used (factory 130gr i think) ,but it was a kick..Stopping power is not in question ,comfortable it aint.. Quote Link to post

It must be a thing with you Soft southerners Only joking mate I must admit I do role my own and it is matched to my Mannlicher Shoenaur Stutzen I think its very imperative that the lead on the bullet is the right distance to the Oglive something factory ammo cant guarantee in every weapon , thats why adverse pressures build in ill matched situations. pro keeper 111
The 270 comes into its own when you home load, i load a 90 or 100 gn for fox and muntjac and 130 for the bigger stuff, the recoil isnt to bad and a good sound mod will help plus needed as they are bloody loud the 270 is the marmite of calibres ive used a 270 15 ish years and still love it, however i will admit to now using a 223 for fox. 3175darren 1,100
270 is a spot on caliber, although I use my 6.5x55 I got rid of mine two yr ago they are virtually the same 270 has the edge, but I have had 6.5x55 for a long time and love the caliber,I know the caliber well it if that makes sense, but you wont find a job the 270 wont do, and do well in england good to load for, reliable acurate round and the recoil isnt that bad at all,you very quickly get used to it,good luck with it I hope you enjoy the gun, Quote Link to post
