preditor1998 1
i am woundering what is the distance does a cartridge for 12 gauge reach i have asked many people at shoot and they all say to kill an animal stone dead is round about 40,45 yard. but then i have been at the pigeons a lot this year and i would say i am droping them at about 60 yards. with a no.6 special pigeon. remi700 99
Do you want to know how far it can kill or how far it will travel? If your George Digweed you can probably shoot pigeons at 85 to 90 yards. For the average man 60 yards is a very good shot. Lead shot can probably travel 350 to 400 yards if fired at the right angle but it wont do much harm outside 100 yards.

GameDealer7412 2
Well shoot it in the head and it will more than likely die 90yards maximum!
shootlodge 145
All down to the cartrage, gun used & experience of the shooter. 50yds is about average. Older mid choked barrels do have better distance, quality carts have better pattern.
hawkeye the brave 7
As above post ,too many variables ,shot size ,choke ,catridge length ,std or mag load ,but as a rule small shot will travel a shorter distance than large but give a better pattern (again depending on choke) small shot up to size 5 or 6 around 5o yards max in decent pattern ,large shot AA ,SG etc lot further - 90 yds or more but normally big holes in pattern ,only real way to tell is to pattern your gun with various size shot cartridges , rifled slug 150 -200 yds ! woodga 170
the distance should be only what your confident at some shooters have more ability than others and even a sixty yard shot is a LONG way when you shoot at a live target the aim is to kill not wound so keep the distance sensible and with in your boundaries i normally only shoot out to around 5o yrs and then i have heavier shot and a larger charge in the cartridge to enable the hit .
TwoSmokingBarrels 11
Anyone seen that video of George Digweed Smashing clays up to 110 or 120 yards? Amazing! He was using black/white gold can't remember, he has such a talent!
The one 8,463
Its not the cartridge , have you the skill or gun handling to be killing stuff out to those distances far better to have a few less in the bag than leave them wounded
