dedger 16
Hi chaps, I'm a bit out of touch with airguns lately but I shoot a farm near me and I have been clearing some rats on the yard, however I am limited as to where I can shoot on the yard because I'm using a rimfire and its too much gun for this. I called by an airgun shop today and they had quite a few on display to say the least, but I can't justify spending loads for a state of the art airgun, so I picked up a few second hand rifles and come accross this one, its a .22 Gamo and Stupidly I forgot to get the model number/name but it has an underleaver fixed to the bottom of the barrel and when its cocked a chamber pops up for the pellet, he put it on the chrono in the shop and its doing 11.8ft/lb, they are asking £130 and it is mint, I thought it was new, they will also give me £100 for a webley Tempest I have had for ages, So it is only costing me £30 cash. My question is are they any good?, I know it will do the job now in its current state/power but will it fall to bits in a month? I was hoping to find an old HW on the shelf but there was none. Thanks. Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
They aren't up to much dedger mate. Good power built into monkey metal. Gamo rifles are generally built from cheap materials and don't last. They are really fit only for garden plinking. If you can up your budget a bit more and look around, you can fix yourself up with a lovely old Weihrauch HW80 or HW77 that'll knock spots off any Gamo any day. 4 Quote Link to post
dedger 16
Thanks Pianoman, I know what you are saying and I kind of suspected the answer myself when I seen the condition of the gun and the price they wanted, I really do want an old hw springer but they only had one in at £600, I don't mind sticking a couple of hundred quid with the tempest for a half decent one, but the farm I have started to shoot is lifting with rats so I need one pretty quick so I was toying with the gamo to put me on till one came available, they wouldn't drop too much money from £130 asking price would they? barrywhite 282
I think the gun you are on about is a cfx if it is, it is an ok gun for the money .My friend has one from new .The trigger is a bit poor .If you practiced with it a bit you would get over that problem. The gun is accurate and powerful .The front sight is easy to break off. I would be happy to shoot rats and rabbits with the gun .but if you spent a little more you could good get a better gun .a little more accurate because of having ,a better trigger, better build quality, and a bit more weight in a gun .If the cfx is working properly it would be ok ,I would not get one though . zini 1,939
I've tried quite a few Gamo rifles in the past and I can honestly say every one of them were sub, sub, sub any Weihrauch from the world famous HW77 right down to the 99 which in its own right is still a very capable full power springer . Papa g 14
I had a Gamo shadow igt (gas ram) it turned out to be one of the worst guns I've ever owned even after fitting a Charlie da tuna custom trigger,1st of all gamo use far to much plastic in there construction, the barrel wasn't even rifled down the whole length??! The barrel had far to much lateral movement for consistent accuracy, & I found it to be hold sensitive, but my mates son loved it, so much so he swapped his mk1 tx200 for it happy days in the end! The dog is my 3yr old springer Jake, he is the best bushing dog I have ever worked with, absolutely fearless with the heart of a Lion, I work him every day and couldn't of asked for a better dog. 1 Quote Link to post

He's the spitting image of my sadly departed friend's dog. Collin would've been proud to see this. 1 Quote Link to post
