Guest WILF
Its all a bit meaningless really, a dog that will catch bags full on its own familiar ground or type of ground may well struggle in a place with totally different terrain........IMHO you can only really make a judgement on a dog if it has run all types of tackle all over this fair land.......and mine have not!.........so who can tell.........they do me a treat anyway! Same as none of you can really tell, unless you do a fair few thousand miles every year.........to those that do, well.......you know what you know Quote Link to post

Guest bob
would the 100 a night rabbiting dog be able to take 100 rabbits each and every time you took him out or would he only be able to do it once a year when the moon is low and the wind is heigh and the conditions is just right but then if you had the dog where you going to get all these rabbits from i also think if youve got land where theres 100s of rabbits to be taken night after night wtf have you been doing up till now lol to have as many rabbits on your land like said before i think a 6 out of 6 daytime dog would be good enough for me on the lamp Quote Link to post
Guest mush
and snoops why would i know exactly how many 69 are 72 i know there was approx 70 and the pic is there on page 2,thanks to bunny basher count them as i cant be bothered,it all comes down to jealousy and we should stick togeather mark So mark thats what happened to my rabbits that i left by the back door, I thought 70 foxes had taken them during the night and then you put a post up saying your dog took them the cheek LOL Quote Link to post
Guest warren
I think I would be correct in saying that there are more dogs who have killed 6 out 6 hares (single handed) than there is that have taken 100 bunnies in one night on the lamp. There is proof without doubt about the 6 out 6 hare dog, I have never known absalute proof about the 100 a night lamp dog. I would have the bunny dog any day. All the best, Warren Quote Link to post

Yip warren your probaly right there..I know a lot of boys from where I live who go down to the fens and supposidly kill, or should I say, killed these sort of numbers of hare..the 100 rabbits in one night.. seen some fairly close to that a few years back, but never actually do it..Dont think I will see it now.. B moocher 0
its all part of the sport we all love. So an all rounder it is for me. 10 rabbits is plenty for any night people that want more are just making the next time they go less of an enjoyment. I only have one of my dogs running at the moment and had done nothing for 12 month with the boy who sold him to me 2 months later and i enjoy watching him take even 5 in a night Edited October 9, 2007 by B moocher Quote Link to post
doxhope 2
My enjoyment was always just getting out, if I go out the back for a quicky and get one rabbit thats ok, if I went into the lions den for numbers and got 50 or 60 with my dog, thats ok..5 rabbits a night is great, so is ten, but if I was in a place where there are hundeds of rabbits, sorry but I wouldnt have the discipline to leave. Just because some of us are into the numbers game, dosnt mean that we get no enjoyment from it, far from it..The one for the pot brigade, and the part timers have been partly responsible for why we will never see dogs again that did, or possible could do 100 rabbits in a night If all people want to do is have a little mooch about, thats fine, but there are some that need just a little bit more. For some folk there is the argument of quantity and quality of sport, for me theres only quality, and if I get that from 1 rabbit, 10 rabbits or 50 rabbits it dosnt matter Enjoy your sport, while you can Quote Link to post

Guest joe ox
Some lurchers will kill more than others when they are unfit but they are still limited because they are unfit. I am a firm believer in conditioning, if your lurchers are not fit and in good condition they will not run to there full potential no matter how talented or well bred they are! These days I do not hunt in the hours of daylight so it would be a talented lamping dog for me everytime Edited October 9, 2007 by joe ox Quote Link to post

Its not nescessary who, but what..Times have changed, this has a lot to do with it, the attitudes of the modern lurcherman/hunter and a lot of the lads that hunt now is different, so are the dogs that are now available. Keep producing dogs that are only capable of a few rabbits, and thats what you will end up with..Numbers men did do it, and look what they are thought of now..Check any thread to do with Vic Minshaws dog and look at the shit thats thrown at him, and his dogs. Look at the hare dogs, some lads like a dog that does the odd hare when mooching about, others a dog that can take 6 out of 6, I know what I would go for. If you want the occaisional hare, wouldnt it be better to get one from some of the best around, and race it when the armchair dosnt look as welcome as a tilled field, than go to a less quality animal that could only ever do the odd hare, even when fit. But the best hare dogs rarely come out of poor stock, you cant breed rats from mice... I may have been harsh before about the one for the pot lads..I appologise..Everyone is entitled to do what they want, I should know better... its just they always bring out this argument about how much they enjoy it, as if everybody else dosnt, If Ive been out lamping sometimes I cant get to sleep thinking about it, and I dream about it when I do get to sleep, I get a hard on all day in excitement about going out, I just love it.
