Gaz_1989 9,539
Anyone actuly seen this £500 stud dog work, 4 pages of replys and as far as iam aware not a mention of its working ability. Two camps here me thinks, 1 which iam in which thinks no dog [and imo that means top show dogs as well as workers] is worth £500 stud fee, £500 doesnt mean its going to throw top class workers or show dogs, some shite dogs have been known for throwing goods workers too, i honestly believe that the price of dogs, workers or otherwise, going up and up is the reason why there are so many dog thefts, and another camp which believes high prices are justified and help keep the messer's at bay, you have a point about messer's thats for sure, but it was a better world when working dogs could be aforded by working class folk, £500 is behond my means, atb, buster. I see your point about working dogs at working lads prices but one argument could be that if you cant afford the £500 stud fee then you cant afford to be breeding a litter anyway? As others have said you could easily recover all costs when you come to sell the pups without making a huge profit margin and still charging enough to keep messers away? Im not sure which side of the fence i sit. I can see both sides. If it wasnt for the lads in the 1st camp then i wouldnt be getting my dog this weekend, hes a genuine bloke who doesnt believe in price tags and just wants a couple of bags of dog food in exchange. If he was charging what the dog was worth then i couldnt afford it, but he knows the dogs going to a good home and gonna get grafted which is worth more to him than a few hundred quid. ATB. woz 260
I'm not saying that a,working lurcher should be thousands of pounds..but you'll pay £500 for a gsd pup that's no use for anything....my Mali bitch will be having a litter in the summer and the pups will be sold for the price of rearing them BUT they will only be going to lads, that will work and give an honest appraisal of there ability... 1 Quote Link to post
johnny boy68 11,726
All this breeding and gifting pups that everybody says they do, for instance say your bitch as 8 pups and you keep one yourself then you need 7 mates who are all ready and prepared to take the pups. I know theres always lads wanting pups but they're not all your mates I know. 1 Quote Link to post

donkey ears 23
Some guy in Belfast was charging 750 in the hunting paper wonder how he got on going rate here usually a drink or a pup. Quote Link to post
woz 260
the stud dog is owned by a big show man . never known him to work his dogs . Then for me it wouldn't be worth using the dog as a stud.....a few of my mates have said a half cross mali/grey are an ugly dog and if I'm honest I don't care what they look like as long as they do what I ask in the field..... Amen to that at least... Really, it just don't matter, because one school of thought is that we have a multitude of dogs because of low prices, which is true and the other, that if you big up the prices everyone will want 'em, which is also true... Either way, the jobs fecked when money is a factor, low or high... Fact...! Right now i'm looking for a puppy out of good sound working stock, no fractions, no breeds necessary and no film stars need apply, just good sized 'dawgs that kill shit' and I really don't care if the price is low or high. I'm much more concerned in what they are out of and if people considered the same things, the dog job wouldn't be in such a mess and I might be able to fecking find one...!!! Quote Link to post
