Sunny Day On The Hills

Up at 5 and off up north ,, picked up vin and got to our destination at 8,, and then started the long trudge up the fell,, almost to the top,, and Venus gave a strong mark,,young inexperienced Jill was entered ,, and 5 were quickly netted,, wich was a nice sart.

 

Onward and upward,,next set we bolted for the dogs,, my memory is a bit Hazey on this one,, but I think the dogs cought one,,then missed one,, I dug one,,,then bolted another the dog cought after it ran in to my leg.

 

Vin had moved on and was catching a few ,,, and digging loads,,,lol, I moved up above him,,, found a big set,,, thought feck the nets,,,,doh, for 5 to get clean away without a catch from the dog,,,lol,,, then I herd more rumbling and quickly dropped 4 nets,, on holes I thought it would bolt,,, and I did catch it.

 

I then did a few little sets accounting for a few,,then dropped on a nice set about 30 holes,, nets down,, camera resting on the ferret box set on movie record...... 5 mins of feck all then it fell of the box and recorded 5 miniuts of sky....lol

 

Shame realy as it was all action on this warren,, and I soon had 11 out,, as I was packing up Venus marked a hole in a bank behind me,, with another hole higher up,, ferret in,, and the dog cought the first,, the second bolted and dropped in a hole,, the third Venus cought again,, then she missed another as it dropped in another warren,,, then I grabbed the last as the ferret held in in the mouth then another catch by the dog,,

 

Time was moving on , and I went down to se how vin was getting on,, and to start moving back down the fell with all the rabbits,, as I had a few,, Venus marked a proxy little two hole thing,, that I thought she's wrong,,, when will I stop second guessing a dogs nose,,, so two out of here,, and move on,, 1 more little 3 holer,, and another brace to finish the day.

 

So with the burden loaded I started down the rest of the fell, back at the van and a quik count and I had 27, a quik drink of water , and I thought i better go get vin ,,, who was coming down, back at the van a count up he had 25 , but he'd dropped his coat up the fell,,,, lol so back up he went,,better him than me.

 

All done for 2 o'clock, ,, and 52 rabbits,, cracking day,, but surprisingly warm in that sun

them banks look nice and flat half 2 we went on till 5 on sunday.... good bag and looks a good day. every time you put pics up i spend 5 minutes inspecting the pictures as im sure i know where it is.... bye eck it all looks similar. them tree guards are good for them releasable tie wraps

25 rabbits,ferret box,net bag [BANNED TEXT] 35 nets and tools etc etc,plus spade and mi coat..

 

I think ive crushed my spine a bit...Im telling you...Its hard work for a little scrawny git like me. . . i made it all the way to the last couple of hundred yards.

 

Worth the pain for the gain anyday though chaps.. What a day it was up there..sun on your back,dogs and ferts working very well.

 

I had a few digs today and a couple of nasty ones that took ages..but after it was a pleasure just watching the dog work alone with me and the ferts steadily bagging them up..the dog caught more than the nets today..she caught a good number on the way out of the holes without even having to chase them 1st...heheheee

she even caught one on the way back down a hole after chasing it all the way down the slope,it dropped down a hole and she came back with it,After diving head 1st into the hole and catching it by the skin of its arse..she came all the way back up the slope with an almost perfect retreive..that was the best moment for me today. . she,s getting very good at catching them on there way down the holes these days,,,its turning into her party trick..lol.

 

A great day for me, that always ends too soon.but leaves you looking forward to the next time.
