earth-thrower 493
A new managment company, has taken over the golf course and country club, i did for moles.Theyve currently decided there will be no budget, for any mole control. There will be no " non-essental spending " they said.Particularly annoying, because after a couple of seasons , i had the moles down to minimum numbers, and at a nice managable level.I would have had alot less work for my fee, this time ! LOL Quote Link to post
koda 83
well what i would do is make sure they have your number and tell them they l need it when the moles come back in bigger numbers and harder to control Quote Link to post
davedavedave 69
They probably know nothing about moles and dont think they have a problem as you have got their numbers right down. However unchecked their numbers will soon rise and they will be calling you in again so sting them for a bigger fee. atb, Dave. Quote Link to post
Le Braconnier 49
I agree with the above. Make sure they have your number and keep popping in from time to time. Once the greens start getting some unwanted bunkers they will want them gone again. Quote Link to post
earth-thrower 493
Yes lads, interestingly, the head greenkeeper was off, after the new crowd took over. Not a good sign ! LOL When i first started,he told me they spent between four and five hundred on gas ,over a couple of seasons. But the place was still a mess, with hills. Quote Link to post
davedavedave 69
Sounds like there are a load of existing mole tunnels sat under the surface ready to be reoccupied. When they do the mole hills will start reappearing and as they get renovated by the new moles this will lead to some unhappy golfers moaning which will shortly be followed by you getting a call. Then you will draw a sharp in take of breathe and say "mmmm its a bigger job now" and "prevention is better than cure". Fingers cross for you mate and hope you soon get the job back. nod 285
just in time for breeding season, let them cause aload of agro they will soon have you back in Quote Link to post
moxy 617
Lol. You won't be away from the job too long. They will be on the blower soon enough. And remember If they do call you back. The extra work load may cost more. They are a Feckin nightmare, golf courses. With captains. Committees and 65 jobsworths trying to reach a single decision. Not to mention the actual arrogant tossers who play. Chin up fella. Atb Quote Link to post

earth-thrower 493
To be fair, the club pro and the deputy greenkeeper are running the course at the moment. They wanted it retained, the pro says he still sees it as a priority. Its out of their hands though. As some of you have said, the moles will be back in force.I reckon two or three seasons, and the damage will be back to the same level it was, when i started. Its definately ' sign of the times ' , ' tightening the belt ' sort of stuff.Alot of golf courses are currently struggling financially, round here. The one 8,477
Aye once they see a few molehills they will be moaning and soon on the phone to you . Our local club had to let a groundsman go due to cuts and theres talk of another one going but they still have to find the money for pest control Quote Link to post
