DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
Just filling out my FAC (first grant). I'm going to apply for .17HMR for "vermin control" and either a 22-250 or .223 for "fox". I've just been round to two of my permissions and got the owners/farmers to sign a permission form downloaded from BASC! (became a member today). They total roughly 1000 acres. Just average ariable farmland. There is also two small holdings roughly 20 acres each. There is already a couple of shooters on one farm but they havent been there for ages and the farmer insists on a text to confirm each outing to avoid two shooters on at the same time. Wether this will make a difference or not.... Is this enough ground to cover a centrefire? Or will i get fox under .17HMR. (Kent police). Its just average pretty flat ground. Any advice or sugesstions welcome. Cheers....... Quote Link to post
TWOTWOTHREE 152
Loads I got my first cf on 200 and 30 acre, its all about lands layout, if its already passed for the cal you want all well and good if not a visit will clarify the cal you are allowed, its easy, you have plenty to go at, Quote Link to post
sussex 5,777
+1 My 1st was on 60acres, you should have no problem ,might be an idea to go .243 for fox it then gives you options on deer if you want to go down that route. just a thought .good luck Quote Link to post
DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
Thanks for your thoughts, I will definitely be going for a centre fire then! Cheers... Quote Link to post
blackfox 9
Depending on the "lie of the land" they may ask you to erect high seats, this was a option that was suggested to me by a FEO. If the land has already been granted for use with a CF, you shouldnt have a problem with a similar size calibre. He said its less to do with the total acreage of the land, more to do with the Humps & Bumps. Safe backstop etc Quote Link to post

For example, if you ONLY had a 1 acre BOMB crater with 100 foot vertical sides you shouldn't have any problem getting a serious centrefire! If you had 100 acres of Millpond flat land surrounded by a school, town, hospital, motorways etc you may struggle to get a rimfire! It's all a bit daft anyway, and a lot is down to the shooter, after all, if you stand on your boundary it doesn't matter if you have 1,000,000 acres in one direction, you have NOTHING in the other direction! shootlodge 145
each constabulary are diffrent, ask them to come out to assess the land etc or ask them whats it is passed at already, if others have shot there . Quote Link to post
The one 8,474
I thought most of the land was already assessed they just looked at a map and knew right away , that is according to my fao , but as said it all depends on the backstops etc Quote Link to post
