Heff 0
Alrite everyone, I'm Howard and I'm looking into getting into shooting, I am looking into getting my shotgun certificate in the upcoming weeks. I am going to start off with clay shooting to get used to firing etc but what I really want to do is be out there hunting rabbit, hare, rat etc with a dog (flushing purposes), what types of dog are best for flushing? Is there anyone who would allow me to tag along in there next hunt/shoot to get a feel for it and some experience? In Purely observational factor. I'm sure ill be back with more questions. Thanks, Howard
ferretmad 2
a springier spaniel would be best for flushing and the labs are more retrieving and peg dogs. spaniels have loads of energy so they would be working all the cover

bird 9,863
Thanks for your replies, would a Staffordshire bull terrier do the job? Thanks, Howard lol , well i did use a 1/4 bull 3/4 grey for dogging in few times , but rough shooting either nice border ,as it might not want to go to ground as much as black terrier, you want the dog on top, or a good springer. Why dont you do some beating this season, have look get in with few guns or keeper , and take it from there .!!

Josh 'Belov' Eteson 0
I use a Teckel for flushing, he is to stubborn to go and find them after they have been shot but we haven't missed a dead bird yet.
Nik_B 3,790
I'd Learn to shoot first then get some experience in the field like a full season and then think about a dog after you know what is going on. Rough shooting can be dangerous and you need to be paying attention all the time to where your shot will be going and also you need to observe what is going on around you. If you are fairly new to the sport having a dog will be a nightmare and spoil your fun. Sports like this are a long term goal in my opinion and it can take a few years to get the experience and then the permission. You might want to look for a syndicate to join, you will get loads of invaluable experience from the members. Also I know a good coach at Worsley (Manchester Clay Pigeon Shooting) if you are interested pm me and I'll give you his name and number.
