Roscrea Working Dog Social Club Dog Show 9Th June

Recommended Posts

sorry guys, but this show today was the worst i've been to in years.i dont think Mr Cullen had a clue.I've never seen this man judge or even show a dog before and the fact he writes for a magazine and makes his own dvds dosent make him a judge. All he seemed to be doing was petting the dogs,no teeth or feet were checked on any dog in the ring.when I saw 2 very respected dogmen leave the show after a half hour, there had to be something wrong. The man on the P.A. was poor, the gundog judge had the entrants running round the ring with their dogs on more than one occasion,(in the heat of today, what the hell was that about.)The man who judged the terriers had brought his dogs to show along with a mate of his who again had brought dogs to show but was approached at the last minute to judge, meaning neither he or his mate could show, and finally some of your own members were showing dogs.A big NO,NO.you never show your dogs at your own show, why would you??.sorry again but the best part of the show for me was going back out the gate.I wont be back but best of luck in the future.

Have to agree with you on the lurcher judge never seen any one so bad at it what I thought was very bad was him trying to sell his DVDs out of the show ring . I don't no the lad so can't say weather he no a good dog or not but any more shows he's judging at I will not be bothering to bring a lurcher with me .

Lads why did ye not approach shane and make him aware of this situation on the day. I know where your concerns are coming from regarding this issue, a lot of time and effort goes into the running of a show as you well know,,, and I am sure shane would have been grateful for your input on the day. Its a pity regarding the negative feedback on this forum, I was at one of their shows and had a great day, but like everything else in life you just can't get it right all the time. I am sure the boys will come back bigger and better next year.

it sure is a thankless job shane fair play to matt for standing in and as long as he wasnt judging his own dogs what difference does it make that he went there to show his dogs at least the man was kind enough to help out another show in a crisis

As I said the lurcher judge was the worst I have ever seen , every thing else was up to a I high standard . Ask members from your own club as to how they think he judge the the lurchers.

Matt did not mind standing in on the day, he would help out any show. We run a show ourselves we know how hard it is to get people to turn up to do a job on the day. You thanked him enough on the day, he was delighted with the food and drinks, and so were the kids, you could not have done any more. Thanks for your great hospitatility, we enjoyed the day, and the dogs got a nice drive. Everybody who runs their own show will say the same, we have to stick together, and help each other out, if not it will be the end for a lot of shows. Then where will everybody go on a sunday.

Bullcross as i said to you at the show, you had a black dog and brown dog and yourself and your mate were not placed in any class and were not happy, i judged the lurcher part and would not change any of my decisions on the day, alot of well respected lurchermen were at the show that have judged themselves and they agreed with the dogs i picked, many of the dogs have won at other shows also, it seems this website gives lads a chance to run people down without useing your real names, if you go on to any of the facebook pages you will say any of the lads at the show were very happy with the job i did many of whom are showing and working dogs for years, maybe bullcross and aslan you no better than everyone else

Thanks Shaneg the day was good the weather was good and there were good dogs there And as for lurchers Ireland you must have had people saying the same to you at the show about your judging or lack of it in nice to see that you use your real name on here to and if you think that being a judge and selling your DVDs at the same time is good well fair play to you .I enjoy my day out and that and it's all a bit of fun in the off season

PLEASE NOTE : FROM THE PEN OF MARGARET Mc STAY
      DATE : 10.3.25
AFTER HAVING A VERY ABUSIVE AND DISTRESSING PHONE CALL THIS MORNING AT 8.25am FROM SOMEONE WHO SENT ME AND ASKED ME TO PUT A WINNING PHOTOGRAPH UP ON MY SITE OF A VERY WORTHY WINNING PERSON AT CRUFTS, UNFORTUNATELY THERE WERE SOME VERY UNSAVOURY COMMENTS MADE UNDER MY POST. THAT POST HAS NOW BEEN TAKEN DOWN.
AS I SAID BEFORE AND I WILL SAY IT AGAIN, I LOVE COUNTRY SPORTS AND HAVE DEDICATED A BIG PART OF MY  LIFE FOR OVER 30 YEARS  DOING EVERYTHING I CAN TO BETTER THE SPORT. WHEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS, AND THANKFULLY IT DOES NOT HAPPEN VERY OFTEN, IT PULLS ME DOWN TO THE DEPTHS. I TAKE MY OWN PHOTOGRAPHS  AT OUR SHOWS AND DO MY WRITEUPS IN A PROPER MANNER AND WOULD NEVER CRITICIZE OR BRUTALISE THE HARD WORK THAT ALL OUR SHOW ORGANISERS PUT INTO GETTING THEIR SHOWS ON THE ROAD.
HAVIING SAID ALL OF THIS, I  MUST NOW  STRESS, ANY DEROGATORY OR HURTFUL REMARKS THAT IS MADE BY ANY INDIVIDUAL UNDER ANY OF MY POSTS WILL BE TAKEN DOWN IMMEDIATELY.  IF UNSAVOURY POSTS NEED TO BE MADE, PLEASE MAKE THEM ON YOUR OWN SITES AND NOT IN MY NAME, AS THE VERBAL ABUSE I HAVE TO TAKE IS NOT NICE, AND ESPECIALLY TO SOMEONE WHO ONLY  DOES GOOD FOR THE SPORT.
AS WE KNOW COUNTRY SPORTS IS BEING PULLED THROUGH THE MUCK AT THE MOMENT,  WE AS PEOPLE HAVE THE  POWER, SO FOR THE GOOD OF COUNTRY  SPORTS  TRY AND PULL TOGETHER  AND HELP EACH OTHER OUT, AND WE WILL WIN IN THE  END. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTINUE TO POST YOUR COMMENTS ON MY SITE AS LONG AS THEY ARE STRAIGHT AND CLEAN AND FOR THE GOOD OF THE SPORT.
      Yours in Country Sports

A TRIBUTE TO THE LATE JIMMY SCOTT, A TOP DOGGIE MAN IN OUR COUNTRY SPORTS FRATERNITY, WHO LEFT THIS WORLD ON Christmas Day.   I Am Free Do not grieve for me now my friends and family, I am free. I am following the path God Laid for me. I took his hand when I heard him call, I turned my back and left it all.   I could not stay another day to show, to live , to hunt, to fish or play. I found my peace at close of day. Be not burdened with this time of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. Perhaps my time seemed all to brief. Do not lengthen it now with undue grief.   Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me. God wanted me now, He set me free.   From all in Country Sports Margaret Mc Stay

The Combined Clubs Dog Show and Northern Ireland Champion of Champions Saturday 7thSeptember 24
Laurencetown is famous for its green fields, ancient buildings, walled gardens and extensive lawns stretching down to the River Bann. But as well as these famous landmarks, Laurencetown can add another string to its bow by adding the annual Combined Clubs Dog Show and Northern Ireland Champion of Champions to its attractions and venue.
Saturday was one of the warmest days of the year with the sun shinning down continuously. I got burned alive but all well worth it. Our Country Sportsmen, women and children came out to this now annual dog show to enjoy the last days of the summer sunshine.
Our summer Dog shows have become canine excursions from all parts of the country North and South of the Border. Saturday was no exception with a good turnout of Terriers, Lurchers, Whippets and Strong dogs.
And wait for it, the big surprise of the day and what a pleasant surprise that was. The McGrath Racing Club arrived unexpectedly for a family day out to support the show. And guess what they acted on the spot with an impromptu few races to the joy of many of the racing fraternity at the show.
The childrens handling class was first on the list and judged by Marian Cree. What a turnout of children in the ring on Saturday. I can still see the smile on Clodagh Gentle face on winning 1st with her   Whippet Clive. These young boys and girls are our sportsmen and women of tomorrow. I have no doubt in my mind that these little people will carry on the sport after our day. Well done Marian and congratulations to all.
