oakey 57
I had a topic on here a while back where a mate wanted my advice on a air gun for garden pest control but didnt want a springer but didnt want the expense of a pcp (not a lot to ask ) . After a lot of convincing i finely got him to part with some money at the gun show at stoneleigh last week a air arms s400 you wont look back i said fantastic gun . So after a session sighting it in at the weekend the report today at work was not what i expected to hear . He cant get a 1/2 inch group at 35yrds he can shoot its not him i used to shoot bell target with him so i know its not .The only thing i can think of is that its a new gun and has to have a few shots through it but i cant remember that with my ultra . Any advice as it looks like im going to have the gun this weekend to have a go ? Quote Link to post
john e. smoke 2
try a variety of pellets through it..... mine likes air arms diablo or rws superfields in 177, each gun is different though. Also make sure he hasn't been overfilling it, fill it to 180 and see how it goes Quote Link to post

barrywhite 282
I would shoot between 150 and 120 bar only [while checking].different pellets .check the front barrel mount has not moved a bit ,mine did once .check moderator is not causing a problem .check the scope is in a good position with the correct eye relief for your mate ,make sure he dosent have to push his head forward or back to get a good sight picture and check the mounts are tight they may have loosened after there fist fixing [a little bit of bedding in] Quote Link to post
davyt63 1,845
hi buddy totally different discipline bell target to hunting, assuming he was using diopter sights and shooting at 6yds/10yds. fill it to 160/170 and dont shoot it any lower than 120/110 this is the rifles sweet spot, try with out the silencer, and as above try different pellets. oakey 57
I will tell him to give it a go without the silencer thanks for advice . Quote Link to post
jackinbox99 41
Something definitely doesnt sound right, You can get pellet on pellet with that at 50 yards. Ive the s410 version in .22 and have no problems. I use 5.52 air arms diablo pellets in mine. As others have said, try a few without the moderator to see if thats causing pellets to catch on it and make sure the scope is firmly mounted. Also the barrel band on the end of the barrel - make sure thats tight. I tend to fill mine to 180, then refill once down to about 100. Quote Link to post
oakey 57
Found out some more today it sounds like a scope problem as it will put pellet on pellet for a couple of shots then shoot 1inch to the right or left then stay there the move again . Quote Link to post
PaulEamonn 37
Something I did (for right or wrong?) was to wedge my guns into a workmate and fire them off half a dozen times. Provided the workmate is stable you should get to find out if the problem is the rifle, the scope or the shooter. Quote Link to post
