whippet 99 2,613
Its absolutely nothing to do with sport its about sticking up for my own.......your an Englishman in England i,ll stick up for you, your wife, your kids just the same as i,ll stick up for Gazza.........long before i,ll stick up for people we have no connection with. What the problem/illness is....is irrellevant its about standing up for your fellow Englishman.....or woman/child......and putting our own kind first. thats fair enough , but i dont stick up for anybody who was someone who achived greatly in any career and become a legend , its up to them to keep there legend status after there career...................i will stick up for my own for the right reasons...................gary glitter was a great singer but because of what he is i couldnt care if he dropped dead tommorrow..........a true legend in my eyes can be in disrepute for activities done in later life..............look at OUR jimmy saville the legendary charity worker..........(just an example) ok gazza cant be compared to peados .........................but the guy has beat his misses and had numerous chances .................im all for chances but even his own family got shite on after they were doing all they could to cure him,................. at the end of the day its nothing to do about standing by your own this thread was about giving to a worthy cause and i think there are better worthy causes here in england / great britain........ From what I can gather his problems aren't only drink related but his mental health isn't at it's best these days either, which can lead people to do things they normally wouldn't. That's not to make excuses for him, as I agree beating women up is disgraceful but maybe...? thats fair ,.i hope the fella pulls through ,i really do and i hope he gets sorted once and for all..............its not just him but he has took family and friends to hell and back...........if im honest i can see him ending up like george best........ shame ,we all make mistakes , can you honestly say that the man hasnt had the relevent help ,....................i believe a man of his status would of had the very best but there is only so much they can do ,.i mean they cant lock him up against his own will ....... i fear for him and his family as this is it for him ..................if its not too late............
whippet 99 2,613
is my replies to this thread so out of order...............? or is it because i dont jump on the band wagon............lol lukey maybe because of my situation i just see things a little different ,............and when you see some one who could of had everything and had more chances than a cat................it gets too you because there are alot who dont get a second chance and to make it worst it was self propelled...... i do think too much sometimes...........and its good to be different..........thanks I certainly agree with your general point. But then I'm not influenced by his hero/legendary status. I'm just looking at the whole thing as objectively as possible. I can't help but think of soldiers with only one limb left and scarred to f**k sitting proud, quiet and strong............... then think of the mess of a man this threads about........... that's all there is to it for me, no further debate needed to justify my feelings on the matter. exactly

socks 32,253
I haven't read all the replies on this topic just flicked through randomly but my take on it is that garza is a man the same as anybody else on this forum no better and certainly not more worthy because he kicked a football around ... He isn't a hero he hasn't brought a ground breaking medical cure into this world ... He beat his missus on numerous occasions and whent to visit a coward piece of shit who shot inocent unarmed men ..... His mental state is down to the years of abuse through alcohol that he inflicted on himself ... There are a million more worthy causes to give your money to than a washed up footballer who will never quit the drink ...... But as has been said people can give their money to who they want .........

As I've said I hope the man gets better.... But this whole Gazza Appeal is a "look at me" media thing... The sun couldn't give a shit it's to sale papers, the fa I would guess instrumented the England players bit to the kitty.. Good pr work... Celebs the same.... It could've been done quietly, as if he needs the media coverage, his rich so called friends get together have a whip round and try to sort him out..... What people give they're money to in charity is no ones business, but fck knows they all made sure everyone knew about the Gazza Appeal...
Kay 3,709
I think a lot of it is to do with the lifestyle they lead once there playing for big money , but if that were the case then wouldnt all players earning obscene amounts of money be the same , ? I do believe some people simply press the self destruct button , George best , gazza , being the 2 most notable , i dont consider either did anything heroic , but I must admit George was poetry in motion to watch, quite magical
